Newport County manager James Rowberry believes landing Crystal Palace striker Rob Street could prove a one-way ticket towards promotion. County – who are currently third in League Two after their midweek win at Leyton Orient – have signed Street on loan from Palace until the end of the season. The 20-year-old – who has been an unused substitute in two Premier League games for Patrick Vieira’s side this season – will provide another striking option alongside County’s leading 20-goal striker Dom Telford and Courtney Baker-Richardson.
By Rob Carbon Newport assistant manager Wayne Hatswell admits the club will have to fend off bids for League Two top scorer Dom Telford this month. By Paul Jones New Newport County manager James Rowberry admitted his start to life as a manager has gone better than he could have dreamed of after a 5-0 home win over Stevenage maintained his 100 per cent record in the job. After a 3-1 victory at Bristol Rovers in his first game in charge, Rowberry enjoyed a dominant display from his side in his first match in the dugout at Rodney Parade. Dom Telford hit a hat-trick to take his tally for the season to 10 goals in 10 games, while long-range strikes from Courtney Baker-Richardson and Finn Azaz completed the rout.
Newly appointed Newport County manager James Rowberry could end up working alongside current caretaker boss Wayne Hatswell. Newport County’s interim manager Wayne Hatswell said his side’s 3-0 win over Scunthorpe United at Rodney Parade was dedicated to Michael Flynn. Flynn, who earlier in the week had negotiated an amicable departure from his post as manager after four-and-a-half years, said his farewells to the players on Friday, but wasn’t at the ground to watch them move to within a point of the play-off places with their best win of the season. “It was a good day at the office and we got back to winning ways. The first goal was key because it put them on the back foot and gave us the belief we needed to go on to win the game,” said Hatswell, formerly Flynn’s right-hand man.
