Josh Tarling has already switched focus to the men’s road race after suffering Olympic heartbreak in Paris in the time trial. The young Welsh star showed his ability to move on quickly to his next challenge even though he had been devastated by missing out on a medal due to a puncture at the start of Saturday’s race. Tarling missed the bronze medal by just 2.16 seconds, with the puncture causing him to lose crucial time and momentum after a bike change.

Josh Tarling will be gunning for Olympic gold in Saturday’s road time trial, and plans to reward himself with a McDonald’s if he pulls it off. The 20-year-old Tarling is the fresh-faced emerging star who is being tipped by many to pip the likes of world champion Remco Evenepoel, Filippo Ganna and Wout Van Aert to win on the streets of Paris this weekend.

Elinor Barker has been backed to bring the benefit of huge experience to the Great Britain cycling squad when she competes at her third Olympic Games. Welsh star Barker, who won Olympic gold in 2016 and silver in 2020 in the team pursuit on the track, has been named in a strong group for Paris that includes Wales’ track sprint world champion Emma Finucane.

She conquered the world in 2023 and now Carmarthen cyclist Emma Finucane has her sights set on winning Olympic gold in Paris this summer. The 21-year-old became the fastest woman in world cycling when she beat Germany’s Lea Friedrich to win sprint gold at the Cycling World Championships in Glasgow last year, becoming only the third British rider to win the title.

Josh Tarling underlined his status as one of Britain’s cycling talents with a superb second place in the Criterium de Dauphine’s individual time trial.

Josh Tarling and Zoe Backstedt underlined their status as the burgeoning stars of Welsh cycling with gold medals at the European Road Cycling Championships in the Netherlands. In a remarkable performance for Great Britain, Tarling secured the gold in the individual time trial in Drenthe.

Josh Tarling was tipped for the top by fellow Welsh rider and former Tour de France winner Geraint Thomas after the 19-year-old claimed a surprise bronze medal in the world championship time trial. The teenager from Aberaeron set the early pace in the race to Stirling Castle and was only bettered by champion Remco Evenepeol and former two-time winner Filippo Ganna.
