Wales’ David Prichard, aged 27, came in for plenty of praise at Taunton.

He landed the PontisPool Equine Sports Centre Maiden Hunters’ Chase on Claire Hitch’s 10-year-old Im All Set, denying favourite Harriet Waight’s CoCo Live of a five-timer.

David, assistant trainer to South Molton’s Kayley Woolacott and a 3lb claiming rider, got his mount home by half-a-length much to the delight of those who backed the horse at odds of 16-1.

Claire Hitch is based at South Molton in North Devon not far from the Bratton Down Point-To-Point Racecourse.

Two other Welsh riders who rode winners at Taunton were Locan Williams and Alan Johns.

Lorcan was successful on the Paul Nicholls trained Birds Of Prey in the Muriel Bell Memorial Novices’ Hurdle and Johns, like Williams from West Wales, took the Maiden Open National Hunt Flat Race on the Tom Lacey four-year-old Capac.

Bird Of Prey won by a neck from Barbados Blue, ridden by James Bowen, and Capac had two-and-a-half lengths to spare over Bergamot.
