Landsman, trained by Aberthin’s Tim Vaughan and ridden by stable jockey Alan Johns, landed the maiden hurdle at far flung Musselburgh.

His backers had little to fear as the strongly fancied six-year-old  came home 12 lengths ahead of Animore ridden by Ross Chapman.

Vale of Glamorgan trainer Vaughan, his stable jockey Alan Johns and Andrew Lowrie of Optimum Racing will be the guest speakers at a Cheltenham Festival preview evening at Barry West End Club on Friday, March 8.

Entrance by ticket only costs £10 and includes a hot buffet. Tickets can be obtained by phoning Andrew on 01446 722463.

Followers of Bargoed’s Welsh-speaking jockey David Probert had plenty to smile about at Wolverhampton.

He won on 14-1 chance Our Manekineko, 7-2 shot Swiss Storm and 6-4 chance Flaming Marvel – which David’s punters were

probably calling him.
