Cardiff City striker Yousef Salech says he is fully committed to the club and determined to lead their charge back to the Championship — despite ongoing transfer speculation surrounding his future.
The towering 6ft 5in Danish forward, who joined the Bluebirds in January for a fee believed to be in the region of £4 million, made an immediate impact last season, netting nine goals in all competitions. While the team suffered relegation to League One, Salech’s performances stood out as a rare bright spot in a difficult campaign.
Linked with several Championship clubs this summer, the 23-year-old has shrugged off the noise and insists his focus is firmly on helping Cardiff bounce back at the first attempt under new head coach Brian Barry-Murphy.
"I'm really happy at Cardiff. It obviously wasn't long ago I joined, and I've enjoyed every part of it so far," Salech said.
"I don't speak to any clubs personally but, if the club does or an agent does, that's their job. I'm just coming into training every day and trying to improve and do my best for the team.
"Obviously as a striker you want to score goals and help the team win games. Especially now that we went down a division. Obviously the goal for the whole club is to get back up and to do it the best way possible."
Salech’s attitude and ambition have impressed Barry-Murphy, who took charge earlier this summer and has already put his stamp on the squad with an intensive pre-season programme and a clear tactical identity. The former Manchester City and Leicester City coach has made no secret of how much he values Salech as a central figure in his plans.
"Yousef, as an example, has been exceptional in pre-season. From the first week of pre-season he's shown really high level of performance and we believe there's a lot of things that he can improve to take him to a different level," Barry-Murphy said.

Salech himself says he has embraced the new regime, and believes Barry-Murphy’s approach is already getting results.
"I've enjoyed it a lot," he said of the new coach’s arrival.
"I think all the players have too. We've been training very specifically on what we want to improve and how we want to play the games.
"I see a big improvement in that throughout the pre-season, and every day in training. Hopefully we can bring that onto the pitch on Saturday.
"He has a very clear structure and a way of seeing how football should be played, and it's been about getting that under our skin.
"We know our basic positions and how to run for each other and at what moments, how to offer the best solution for each other on the pitch.
"We're creating a lot of chances now in pre-season, and it feels like we are very dangerous as a team right now."

With the League One campaign kicking off this weekend against Peterborough United at Cardiff City Stadium, Salech is likely to lead the line for a side that has undergone significant change since the drop to the third tier.
Cardiff have offloaded 11 senior players this summer in a sweeping squad overhaul, but have managed to retain key talents like Salech — a reflection of the club's desire to stabilise and mount a promotion push under Barry-Murphy.
The club’s hierarchy has also been keen to underline that there is no financial pressure to sell more players, despite interest in Salech and others.
"I think the support and clarity from the ownership of Vincent [Tan] has been really clear," Barry-Murphy said.
"The players that leave the club will be on our terms. Players that we accept leave for reasons that benefit us and anybody who we want to keep stays here."
The Bluebirds have yet to make any signings this window, though they are reportedly close to securing goalkeeper Nathan Trott from Copenhagen on a loan deal. Barry-Murphy remained cautious when asked about transfer activity.
"I think until everything is absolutely done I think it's very dangerous to presume things have got to happen," he said.
"But I think the line that is important is that we are absolutely looking to improve all areas of the team with real quality and hopefully there will be something in before the weekend."

For now, Salech remains the focal point of Cardiff’s attack and perhaps the club’s most valuable asset — not just for his goals, but for his mindset. Despite the rumours and a relegation in his first few months in Welsh football, he remains positive and locked in on the task at hand.
"I'm just coming into training every day and trying to improve and do my best for the team," he said once more, underlining his commitment.
"The goal for the whole club is to get back up."
