Wrexham are eyeing their boldest transfer move yet as they pursue Wales international Nathan Broadhead in what would be a club-record £7 million deal.
The ambitious offer for the Ipswich Town forward signals a significant statement of intent from the newly promoted Championship side, as they look to reinforce their squad ahead of their first season back in the second tier for 44 years.
Broadhead, 27, has emerged as Wrexham’s top target, with the club ready to shatter their current transfer fee record to bring the Bangor-born attacker back to North Wales.
While Ipswich have made it clear they have no plans to sell the player this summer, Wrexham’s persistence highlights just how highly they value the versatile forward, who can operate across the front line.
A product of the Everton academy, Broadhead enjoyed spells at Burton Albion, Sunderland, and Wigan Athletic before making a permanent switch to Ipswich in January 2023.
He played 21 games in all competitions last season, scoring twice and registering one assist, as Kieran McKenna’s side tried unsuccessfully to stay in the Premier League.
Broadhead has also become a regular figure for the Wales in recent seasons, offering further appeal to Wrexham, who are seeking players capable of inspiring both on and off the pitch.
A return to his home nation — and a starring role in the club’s next chapter — could offer Broadhead a tempting new challenge, though Ipswich remain firm in their stance.

In the background of the Broadhead pursuit, Wrexham have also been actively exploring other reinforcements.
Among the names being considered is Colombia international Juan Portilla, a tenacious defensive midfielder currently with Argentine side CA Talleres.
Though formal discussions have yet to begin, the 26-year-old is believed to be open to a move to the Racecourse Ground.
Portilla, who has 18 months remaining on his current deal (with the club holding an option to extend by another year), would add steel and energy to Wrexham’s midfield — an area manager Phil Parkinson is still looking to strengthen.
Meanwhile, another familiar name linked with Wrexham is Wales striker Kieffer Moore.
The 32-year-old joined Sheffield United on a three-year contract last summer and scored five goals in 28 Championship appearances last season.
Though under contract, Moore has reportedly attracted Wrexham’s attention, and Parkinson confirmed the interest during a recent media appearance.
"Kieffer's under contract at Sheffield United. He's one of a number of players we've looked at over the summer," Parkinson said.
"Like I said, the landscape changes in the transfer market very quickly from one week to the next.
"We're looking at lots of options here and abroad."

Wrexham, fuelled by the momentum of back-to-back promotions and global interest under co-owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, have already added significant names to their squad this summer.
New arrivals include goalkeeper Danny Ward, forwards Ryan Hardie and Josh Windass, defenders Liberato Cacace, and midfielders George Thomason and Lewis O'Brien.
There was even dialogue over a sensational move for Denmark star Christian Eriksen, though Parkinson confirmed that talks did not progress far.
"The club have had dialogue over the idea of signing Denmark midfielder Christian Eriksen, but it had not gone further," he said.
With just days until their Championship opener away to Southampton on 9 August, Parkinson admitted he’s still hoping to bolster the squad before the season begins — though he acknowledged the complexities of the transfer market.
"Obviously in an ideal world you want all your signers in prior to pre-season to work with," he said.
"But it just doesn't work like that. People sometimes say, why doesn't it?
"It's just a variety of reasons – clubs don't want to sell players, competition for players, negotiations over transfer fee or wages.
"Of course, ideally, we'd like to make a couple more additions. Is that going to happen before the start of the season? It's difficult to say.
"But the most important thing is by the end of August we've got a squad in here which we feel can compete."
