Owen Beck excelled last season in a loan move to Blackburn Rovers and now has the chance to make progress at Derby.

John Eustace hails Owen Beck as “one of the most exciting full-backs” after Derby loan deal

Wales youngster Owen Beck has been labelled one of the most exciting young full-backs in the country by Derby County manager John Eustace.

Eustace has voiced his delight at being reunited with Beck, calling the Liverpool defender “one of the most exciting full-backs in the country for his age at the moment”, after the defender sealed a season-long loan move to Pride Park.

Beck, 22, also signed a new long-term deal with Liverpool before heading out on loan.

The move marks the latest chapter in the promising full-back’s career, which has already seen him enjoy spells at Famalicao, Bolton, Dundee and most recently Blackburn Rovers — where he first linked up with Eustace.

The Derby boss was full of praise for Beck’s development during their time together in the Championship last season.

“He is a really exciting young player,” said Eustace.

“I was very fortunate to work with him last year and everyone could see the growth he made playing in the Championship.

“He is a super, young, talented player and one of the most exciting full-backs in the country for his age at the moment.”

Beck, a Wales Under-21 international, echoed the sentiment, saying the chance to work with Eustace again was a key factor in his decision.

“We built a really good connection. I feel like he got the best out of me,” Beck told Derby’s website.

The left-back, who signed his first professional deal with Liverpool in June 2020, has made three senior appearances for the Reds.

He was called into the senior Wales squad for the first time in October 2023 but is still waiting for his debut cap.

Beck becomes the latest former Blackburn player to join up with Eustace at Derby, following the arrivals of Andreas Weimann and Danny Batth earlier in the transfer window.
