Peterborough United boss Grant McCann has branded Swansea City’s style of play as “unique” ahead of Wednesday’s Skybet Championship clash at London Road.
“I’ve come up against Russell Martin teams at MK Dons and Swansea before and they have a unique style of play,” said McCann.
“They are very much possession-based and they can be very hard to play against as they rotate players all the time.
“It’s not unusual for their centre-half to turn up at centre forward!
“We will have to be disciplined in terms of shape and structure. We will have to concentrate and our communication must be good from number one to number 11. But we also have to make sure we carry a threat.”
Swansea have lost 10 of their 18 away matches in the Championship so far this season but their assistant coach Matt Gill is thankful for the fans patience and support.
“Russell has made it obvious to everyone where he wants to go with this club,” said Gill, who played alongside Martin at Norwich between 2009 and 2011.
“That’s where I think the fans have been great. It’s a different club now to what it has been previously, and that’s why their patience and support has been so good.
“The support we’ve had since we arrived has been outstanding. Saturday, before the game at Blackpool, was an outstanding feeling.
“We finished the warm-up with a bit of shooting, and it just felt that they were so supportive of us. That can take you a long way. That patience will hopefully get rewarded.”
I agree wholeheartedly. Think he is a great manager, and he really does have the club working towards something special. This season is more of a transitional period. Next season we will reap the rewards of Russell Martin and his version of the Swansea Way.

Gill began his professional career with Peterborough back in 1997 and is expecting a tough game against his former club.
“They are making a real fist of it. Grant is someone I know well. He was probably hard done by at Hull after doing a really good job there,” said Gill.
“Hopefully I’ll have the chance to bump into Barry Fry at some point because he gave me my debut a long time ago.
“It’s going to be tough as they are fighting for their lives so both teams will be pushing for the win.”
