Swansea City Promise to Make Amends Thanks to Home Comforts

Swansea City have vowed to bounce back when they host Stoke City this weekend, with head coach Vitor Matos encouraged by the response he has seen from his players in training.

The Swans suffered a disappointing 3–0 loss away to Ipswich Town last time out, but Matos believes the reaction has been exactly what he wanted as preparations intensify for the visit of the Potters.

“The most important thing this week has been how the team reacted,” said Matos, who confirmed that Adam Idah and Zeidane Inoussa are the only injury absentees for Saturday’s home fixture.

“We have had a proper reaction, the training sessions we have had have been really good and the effort they have put in has been unbelievable.

“The commitment was excellent, and it’s about making sure we understand how to compete against these teams.

“It is small details that will make a big difference, and if we get them wrong we will be punished and they will be really clinical and precise.

“When you have that you need to understand that you have to get everything right across the 90 minutes.

“So it is an important lesson to learn, and the boys have reacted well. Now, we focus on making sure we have the performance we want against Stoke.”

Swansea will be eager to rediscover their form at the Swansea.com Stadium, where they have built an impressive run over recent months.

The Welsh club are currently unbeaten in nine home matches, a sequence that has played a major role in their campaign and one they will hope to extend to double figures when Stoke arrive.

A central figure in that success has been striker Žan Vipotnik, whose goals have helped drive Swansea’s strong performances in front of their own supporters.

The Slovenian forward has already scored 18 times this season and has become a focal point in attack, though he insists the team cannot afford to take anything for granted when the Potters come to town.

“We are enjoying it at home, but you cannot be too comfortable because things can change quickly in football,” he said.

“So we have to be ready to go from the off, to give the fans something to cheer about because we know the difference they make as the 12th player and I am sure they will be the same again this weekend. They help us a lot and it’s on us to get them in the game.”

Vipotnik’s contributions have included a number of memorable strikes during the campaign, making him one of Swansea’s standout performers as the season heads into its final stretch.

Reflecting on his favourite goal so far, the forward admits it is not an easy choice.

“It’s difficult because I like all of them,” he says.

“The Watford one was very important because that was the start, but if I need to just pick the one I think is most beautiful there are a few like against Plymouth.

“I really liked the first one against Norwich, and the free-kick against Sheffield Wednesday because it was one of the first free-kicks I’ve taken in my senior career.

“But if I had to pick one, it would be the first one against Norwich. The movement, the pass and the finish was really nice.”

With 11 matches remaining in the campaign, Vipotnik will hope there are still more goals to come as Swansea look to finish the season strongly.

The immediate focus, however, is ensuring the team respond in the right way after their trip to Ipswich. Matos has emphasised that the defeat served as an important reminder of the standards required across the full 90 minutes in the Championship.

While the Swans have impressed on home turf, they know Stoke will present a stern test, particularly if Swansea fail to maintain the intensity and attention to detail their head coach has been stressing.

But with confidence in their home form and the backing of their supporters, Swansea will believe they have the tools to put things right and continue their strong run at the Swansea.com Stadium.

For Matos and his squad, the aim is simple — learn from the disappointment of Ipswich, build on the hard work seen in training this week, and produce a performance capable of rewarding the home crowd once again.
