Ludlow Looking To Youth….In More Ways Than One

Wales manager Jayne Ludlow has named nine uncapped players in the squad for the friendly double header with Portugal on November 10 and 13.

Wales manager Jayne Ludlow has named nine uncapped players in the squad for the friendly double header with Portugal on November 10 and 13.

And in a unique move to mark Wales’ World Cup qualifying campaign, the 26-strong squad had been named by children from across the country.

The FAW contacted 26 children from all over Wales that were inspired by the squad over the last 18 months as they came so close to World Cup qualification.

Ludlow has rested experienced players like Jess Fishlock and Loren Dykes to give other players experience of being in a squad environment ahead of competitive games with the 2021 UEFA Women’s Euro Qualifying campaign on the horizon.

Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Megan Wynne is back in the squad after winning her last Wales cap against Scotland in 2013, but Rachel Rowe will be missing out as she recovers from injury.

 

 

During the World Cup qualifying campaign, Wales went seven games without conceding a goal and and picking up some famous results, beating Russia 3-0 at home and a goalless draw against England away at Southampton.

The games against Portugal will now both be fully capped friendlies Both matches will now be fully capped friendly matches after the original announcement of a B international and a A international.
