Colwyn Bay “Horror Show” Proves Barry Are Becoming Scary Again

Barry Town United are putting the frighteners on opponents again as they proved at Colwyn Bay, as David Roberts reports.

Colwyn Bay boss Michael Wilde described his side’s 4-1 home defeat to Barry Town United as “a horrow show” as the Seagulls conceded more goals than they had let in during their previous nine matches in the JD Cymru Premier.

After four clean sheets in the league, and five in all competitions, Wilde’s men suffered the Halloween horrors as they lost a one goal lead, had a player sent off, suffered injuries and conceded four times.

To add insult to injury, Robbie Willmott’s final goal for the Linnetts went in after a wicked deflection from 25 yards.

“Everything that could have gone wrong in a game did go wrong. It’s disappointing,” said Wilde.

“Not just from the two sloppy goals we conceded, which gave them a good foothold in the game, but we didn’t take advantage of our one goal lead.

“We had injuries and the sending off didn’t help things at all. Our backs were against the wall after that.

“We put ourselves under pressure and got into a position we don’t often find ourselves in. We came into the game off a good month and now we’ve got to dig in deep.

“We hadn’t conceded many goals, so this is a reality check. There are big enough and brave enough boys in that changing room, myself included, to own up to the mistakes and we’ll dust ourselves down and go again.”

Nathan Peate gave the Seagulls a 13th minute lead before Ieuan Owen scored twice in five minutes for the visitors.

Then came the sending off of Lewis Sirrell for a reckless challenge on Owen on the half-way line.

Ollie Hulbert added a third goal in the 69th minute before Willmott rounded things off 10 minutes later to earn Barry their first win in six games.

“It’s a very important three points and we knew it was a game we had to win. We went a goal down but our reaction to conceding was brilliant,” said Barry boss Steve Jenkins.

“The sending off affected things but even 11v10 isn’t easy. We made it look comfortable in the end and were full value for our four goals.”

Noah Daley doubled up to earn Penybont their first win in three games as he guided his side to a thrilling 4-3 win at Flint Town United.

After back-to-back defeats to The New Saints and Caernarfon Town, Rhys Griffiths’ side needed to get back to winning ways and they were forced to dig deep before finally overcoming the Silkmen.

Jack Thorn gave the home side the lead after 25 minutes before Clayton Green made it 1-1 at the break with his 40th minute strike.

Daley than fired into the bottom corner four minutes after the break to five Penybont the lead, but Flint weren’t finished yet.

Ben Wynne leveled on the hour mark and then Michael Burke gave them the lead once again with his effort in the 67th minute to make it 3-2.

Now it was Penybont’s turn to dig deep and it was left to their start striking duo of James Crole and Daley to bag the points.

Crole made it 3-3 in the 82nd minute before Daley buried the winners five minutes later.

It was a win that keeps Penybont in second place two points clear of Caernarfon Town, who comfortably beat Briton Ferry Llansawel 4-1 at home.

The Ferrymen took the lead in the 24th minute through a Corey Hurford goal but found themselves trailing 2-1 at the break.

Sion Bradley struck first from the penalty spot and then Adam Davies grabbed his ninth goal of the season.

Bradley hit the target with a second penlty in the second half before Phil Mooney added a fourth in added time. That made it three defeats in a row for Britton Ferry.

Something had to give at Cyncoed where Cardiff Met hosted Connah’s Quay Nomads in a game that pitched two teams who went through October unbeaten against each other.

In the end, it was the Nomads who never looked back after picking up a penalty after only four minutes.

Rhys Hughes stepped up to hit the target and Harry Franklin made it 2-0 by half-time with a second in the 22nd minute.

A second Hughes penalty in the 75th minute wrapped things up and moved the Nomads up to fourth with a game in hand on the top three. The Archers slipped out of the top half.

Bala Town fans were celebrating their side’s first win since 23 September thanks to a 1-0 home win over bottom-of-the-table Llanelli Town.

Olamide Ibrahim’s 13th minute goal ended a run of five games without a win, while The Reds were condemned to a fifth straight defeat.

Still hovering just above Llanelli at the foot of the table are Haverfordwest County, who slipped to a 3-2 home defeat to reigning champions The New Saints.

A week on from their stirring comeback to draw 3-3 at Connah’s Quay Nomads the Bluebirds almost did it again.

Two goals in three minutes in the middle of the first half from Danny Williams and Jordan Williams gave the league leaders a handy half-time lead and when Jordan Williams fired home his 14th goal of the season three minutes after the re-start it looked like it might be a long second half for the home side.

But Corey Shepherd got one back for County just before the hour mark and then Ben Ahmun cut the gap to a single goal on the stroke of time.
