Aaron Ramsey’s Wales career has been thrown into fresh uncertainty after the 34-year- old was left out of Craig Bellamy’s squad for this month’s decisive World Cup qualifiers.

The decision comes after reports that his brief stint in Mexico has come to an abrupt and emotional end.

The veteran midfielder, who has not featured for Wales since September 2024, was omitted from Bellamy’s 26-man squad named on Tuesday for the matches against Liechtenstein and North Macedonia.

The decision comes just days after Ramsey’s family confirmed that their missing dog, Halo, was now presumed dead — and amid reports in Mexico that the former Arsenal and Juventus star has parted company with Pumas UNAM.

Ramsey’s omission marks the latest twist in a turbulent year for the Wales captain, who moved to Mexico last summer in a surprise attempt to prolong his international career and keep his World Cup dream alive.

His time in Liga MX, however, has been beset by injury and personal upheaval.

The Cardiff-born midfielder managed just six appearances — only three of them starts — for Pumas after recovering from hamstring surgery in March.

His absence from the pitch coincided with the disappearance of Halo, the family’s 10-year-old beagle, who vanished while wearing a tracking collar near a dog shelter.

Ramsey had offered a reward of $20,000 (£15,000) for information, but on Monday, his wife Colleen shared the update: “We will continue to search but we have to accept that she has likely passed away.”

Reports in Mexico claim Ramsey and Pumas have agreed to terminate his contract by mutual consent following the incident, though neither the player nor the club has officially confirmed the split.

Pumas boss Efrain Juarez refused to elaborate when questioned after their weekend match, saying only: “Honestly, I think the club will provide information about that in due time.”

Ramsey’s situation leaves his playing future uncertain at both club and international level.

He had been named in Bellamy’s squad last month for games against England and Belgium but withdrew with a hamstring problem.

His exclusion this time around suggests that Wales are preparing to move forward without their long-serving talisman.

Ben Davies will once again captain the side in Ramsey’s absence.

The Tottenham defender, 32, has been included despite missing the past month through injury.

Wales head into their final group fixtures needing two wins to secure a play-off place and keep alive hopes of reaching next summer’s World Cup in Canada, Mexico, and the United States.

They face bottom-ranked Liechtenstein away on November 15 before hosting second-placed North Macedonia three days later in Cardiff.

Cardiff City playmaker Rubin Colwill replaces Ramsey in the only change from last month’s squad.

Colwill, 23, has been in excellent form in League One and retains his place after impressing in October despite Wales’ back-to-back defeats — a 3-0 friendly loss to England and a 4-2 qualifying defeat to Belgium.

Leeds United winger Dan James also returns after recovering from the ankle injury that ruled him out of those fixtures.

His recall comes at the expense of Cardiff striker Isaak Davies.

Burnley’s Connor Roberts, Ipswich Town’s Wes Burns, and Wrexham goalkeeper Danny Ward all remain sidelined through injury.

Wales’ automatic qualification hopes effectively ended with the loss to Belgium, leaving them third in Group J.

To finish as runners-up and secure home advantage in the play-offs, Bellamy’s side must win both remaining fixtures.

Wales squad: K Darlow (Leeds), A Davies (Sheff Utd), T King (Everton), B Cabango (Swansea), J Dasilva (Coventry), B Davies (Tottenham), R Kpakio (Cardiff), C Mepham (West Brom), D Lawlor (Cardiff), J Rodon (Leeds), N Williams (Nottm Forest), E Ampadu (Leeds), J James (Leicester, on loan from Rennes), J Sheehan (Bolton), J Colwill (Cardiff), D Brooks (Bournemouth), S Thomas (Stoke), R Colwill (Cardiff), H Wilson (Fulham), N Broadhead (Wrexham), L Cullen (Swansea), M Harris (Oxford), L Koumas (Birmingham, on loan from Liverpool), D James (Leeds), B Johnson (Tottenham), K Moore (Wrexham).
