Welsh javelin thrower Bethan Rees completed a remarkable double on Friday as she won two national titles at events held 120 miles apart. At noon, Rees started competing in the javelin at the English Schools’ Championship at Alexander Stadium in Birmingham. After clinching the title with a throw of 47 metres, Rees collected her medal and jumped straight into a car and headed south west.
Shot-Putter Adele Nicoll is Cardiff Met student with a big future. She narrowly missed out on a place in the Wales’ Commonwealth Games team, but the national u23 record holder and World Youth finalist has her eyes on the 2020 Olympics. Nicoll recently picked up a dominant shot put victory with 14.57m, to win the British Universities and Colleges Sport Indoor Championships in Sheffield – adding to her impressive medal haul and finishing comfortably ahead of Sam Milner.
