Merthyr have sealed their place in the Principality Premiership play-offs after a 34-23 victory over Aberavon. Head coach Geraint Roberts was left stunned as his South Wales Warriors fell to a third successive defeat in which they scored in the closing moments. Wales midfielder Shaun MacDonald is unlikely to play again this year after suffering an horrific double fracture of his left leg. The Wigan player – who has been part of Chris Coleman’s squad for World Cup qualifiers this season – was injured in Saturday’s 1-0 defeat at Reading which sent Wigan down to League One. MacDonald was hurt in a tackle with Reading’s George Evans – for which the Royals players was booked – and had to be given gas before being rushed to hospital.

Wayne Pivac says he does not care who the Scarlets play in their Guinness Pro12 play-off semi-final. The head coach saw his team clinch their top four place with a convincing 3-8 victory at Connacht on Saturday night. Swansea City’s Paul Clement comes up against his former Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho on Sunday admitting that he was once in awe of the Manchester United manager.
