Ki Tells Swans It’s Time To Back Up Words With Wins

Swansea City’s Ki Sung-Yueng has told his teammates it’s time to walk the walk to match their fighting talk. The South Korean midfielder has only recently returned to the side after injury, but that has not eased his frustration over recent results. The Swans face Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday with only two victories from nine Premier League games, a return that has left them above the relegation zone only on goal difference.

John Kear’s Worst Fear Realised As Wales Thrashed In World Cup Opener

Wales endured a nightmare afternoon in Port Moresby as Papua New Guinea ran in 10 tries to open their Rugby League World Cup campaign with a thumping 50-6 win. Experienced coach John Kear’s pre-match message would have been to stay in the game to quieten the fanatical home crowd but they were simply overpowered by the pumped-up tournament co-hosts. Brisbane Broncos full-back David Mead helped himself to a hat-trick while Rhyse Martin added two tries and Nene MacDonald, Kato Ottio, Wellington Albert, Justin Olam and Paul Aiton each scored once as PNG showed no mercy.

The Ospreys scored four tries to earn a Guinness Pro14 bonus point as the Dragons’ limitations were exposed in spite of a defiant defensive showing.

Martina And Family Bounce Back With Tennis In Mold

A mother from Flintshire has joined forces with a local charity to become a tennis volunteer on the programme that helped turn her son’s life around. Martina Pritchard from Hawarden got involved in the Bouncing Back initiative at Mold Tennis Club after seeing the transformation it had on her son, who was so badly affected by anxiety that he was unable to go to school. Thanks to a partnership between Mold Tennis Club and local community enterprise KIM Inspire1, Martina began taking her 17-year-old son to the Bouncing Back programme in August 2016, which has now helped him cope so well with his anxiety, he has been able to return to school.

Velodrome Uplift Revives Memories Of ‘Tough As Boots’ Bert – The Carmarthen Flyer

The new face of Welsh cycling was on parade this week when professional riders Scott Davies and Amy Roberts joined forces with the Mayor of Carmarthen, Cllr Alun Lenny, at the official re-opening of the velodrome at Carmarthen Park. The track first opened in 1900 and was soon the home of some of the best cyclists in Wales, one of whom was selected for the 1908 Olympic Games in London. Bert Andrews was always referred to as “the Carmarthen flyer” and was obviously as tough as old boots. Why? Well read on! On 26 July, 1902, he won the 25 mile championship of the world at Pontypridd, beating all the top English riders. It was a brilliant achievement and one that marked him out as a major track cycling star in the making.

Cardiff Met In The Mood To Replace The New Saints At The Top Of The Tree

Christian Edwards believes his Cardiff Met team can topple JD Welsh Premier League leaders The New Saints on Saturday – and replace them as frontrunners. A victory for the students at Park Hall would see them reverse the current order at the top of the table and, perhaps, convince some of the doubters that the champions can be denied another title. It night be premature to talk of any changing of the guard – even if there is a change in the pecking order – but results and recent form suggest another close contest following the 0-0 draw the last time the sides locked horns.

Travel Happy Dragons In The Mood To End Away Day Misery At Ospreys

Bernard Jackman is convinced the Dragons can do without home comforts, having been to Moscow and returned with more than tourist snaps of Red Square. The Dragons coach has dumped one unwanted record – an 18-month losing streak on their European travels – when the region beat Enisei-STM in the Challenge Cup last week. Now, he turns to ridding the Dragons of another painful losing stretch. When they visit the Ospreys at the Liberty Stadium on Friday night it will be 30 matches since they last won away from home in the Guinness Pro14, a sequence that goes way back to March 2015.

Katie Taylor Aiming To Be Crowned In Cardiff Second Time Around

The last time Katie Taylor was in Cardiff she was playing football for the Republic of Ireland. Now she hopes to rule the world from the Welsh capital. Not only that, the pin-up girl of Irish sport wants to use her fight with newly crowned WBA lightweight champion Anahi Sanchez on the undercard of the Anthony Joshua v Carlos Takam heavyweight title fight at the Principality Stadium “to elevate women’s boxing”. While she can’t remember the result of the friendly international against Wales – “I think we lost” – she knows that nothing other than victory on Saturday night will be good enough as she bids to meet her goal of becoming a world champion within a year of turning pro.
