Warrington and Wales have always had strong ties, with no less than 60 full Wales RL international players having turned out for the club, whilst the Wolves and Tigers have always been loosely linked as the birth of the Cwmbran-based club in 2003 was assisted by former Warrington and Wales international, the WRL president Mike Nicholas, a man who is still a regular at the Halliwell Jones Stadium.

Excitement, nerves and fear are all emotions likely to be felt by Cardiff City supporters at Sunday lunchtime but Bluebirds fan Geraint Roberts is putting the £100m game to the back of his mind to focus on his South Wales Warriors’ imminent British American Football league fixture. The Warriors players will be arriving at Llanharan’s Dairy Field for their opening home game against the Jurassic Coast Raptors just as Cardiff City kick-off against Reading, at the Cardiff City Stadium 20 minutes east along the M4, in a match that could clinch promotion to the English Premier League. Rhondda boy Roberts, once a follower of Cardiff City “home and away”, has accepted his duties as head coach of the only Welsh side in the British American Football Association (BAFA) National Leagues means he cannot witness a potentially historic day in the capital club’s history.
By Tomos Hughes Aberystwyth Town director of football Neville Powell believes victory over his former club Connah’s Quay in the JD Welsh Cup final could inspire the club to a new era of success. This year’s final takes place at Newtown AFC’s Latham Park, and will be shown live on Sgorio on Sunday, 6 May. […]
The rise and rise of Welsh women’s hockey has continued post-Commonwealth Games with two players being selected in the England Hockey Premier League Team of the Year. The Holcombe HC duo of Leah Wilkinson and Sarah Jones returned from Australia to find themselves being honoured along with clubmate Emma Trunks in the top side, voted for by their peers. They were selected at the end of a season that saw Holcombe beaten 3-1 by Surbiton in the Premier League final last weekend.

Former Wales and Liverpool player Foster and her fellow officials will make history by setting a first for the men’s game in Wales. Foster, nicknamed ‘Fozzy’ by […]

dai-sport journalist Terry Phillips has been reporting on Cardiff City for a quarter of a century. Here is part one of his reflection on the Bluebirds’ promotion seasons. Gareth Davies called the Dragons “average” on Saturday night and then spent Sunday morning writing out an apology, the Scarlets announced this week. What a load of nonsense, says Graham Thomas. In Nineteen Eighty-Four, George Orwell defined freedom as the right to say that two plus two make four. In modern day Welsh rugby, Gareth […]
Gareth Davies called the Dragons “average” on Saturday night and then spent Sunday morning writing out an apology, the Scarlets announced this week. Quite right, too, says Robin Davey. I’m not one bit surprised Scarlets scrum half Gareth Davies has been forced to issue an apology to the Dragons after the way he has slagged them off. The Wales scrum-half was speaking after another one-sided performance by the Scarlets against their East Wales opponents on Judgement Day when the result was never in doubt.

The last time Mark Williams was snooker world champion, Swansea City were at the bottom of the Football League, Robert Earnshaw was scoring 30 goals in League Two for Cardiff City, and Steve Hansen was still the Wales rugby coach. But as Simon Kendal-Williams reports, sometimes the clocks can go backwards. What a difference a year makes. Following defeat to Stuart Carrington in the final qualifying round of the 2017 world championship, Mark Williams seriously contemplated walking away from the sport he had graced for more than 25 years.
Lukasz Fabianski believes battle-scarred Swansea City will have the mental edge over their rivals as the relegation scrap reaches a conclusion. The Poland goalkeeper was crowned player of the season at the club’s awards night on Wednesday, a deserved accolade for a 10-month stretch of consistency no other squad member could match. Without Fabianski’s ability, it’s easy to imagine the Swans’ predicament would be a whole lot worse. As it is, they enter the final three games of the season just a point above the relegation zone with three clubs beneath them and six above them still in theoretical danger of going down.
Teenage German goalkeeper Steven Benda shone for Swansea City in the Welsh Youth Cup final – and now he’s aiming for a trophy double. Benda, 19, was the matchwinner for the young Swans, saving penalties taken by Trystan Jones and Isaac Davies during a shootout at the Liberty Stadium. Now Benda, signed from 1860 Munich last year, […]
