Swansea Harrier Lauren Williams broke the Welsh Junior 400m hurdles record and set a huge personal best at the European Athletics Championships curtain-raiser in Berlin. The Bath University student was competing for Great Britain U-20s in an international match against Germany and France at the city’s Olympic Stadium.

The South Wales Warriors wasted no time in securing the victory necessary to seal an undefeated campaign in their final fixture of the regular season in Redruth.  A first quarter onslaught saw the visitors run up 30 points in the first quarter to put any hopes of an upset from the Sharks, who shipped 62 points without reply in the first fixture between the sides, out of mind. The real challenge for the Warriors was to ensure they kept a clean sheet to maintain their number one ranking for the play-offs – and that was exactly what the defence did through four quarters.

Ruaidhri Smith believes Glamorgan can clinch a place in the Vitality Blast quarter-finals after his birthday bash destroyed Middlesex. The all-rounder recorded the best-ever economy rate by a Glamorgan bowler in T20 cricket as his side demolished Middlesex by seven wickets at Richmond on Sunday. His stunning figures of four for six meant the Scotsman marked his 24th birthday in style as Glamorgan moved up to fifth in the south table, level of points with fourth-placed Surrey with eight matches to go in the group stages.

The Men’s National Autograss Championships certainly lived up to expectations, with two days of spectacular racing held over the weekend on the Castle Lloyd Farm race track near Red Roses in Carmarthenshire. Some 400 cars took part in the race meeting, and there was plenty of success for the local South Wales League drivers. Carmarthen Autograss Club’s Dan MacKenzie took the Champion of Champions race victory to defend his title in CA44, after benefitting from a mistake by rival Tom Lewis on the final lap.

Yan Dhanda is thinking big after helping Swansea City complete a perfect start to their Championship campaign. The 19-year-old midfielder scored the winner with his first touch, four minutes after coming on at Sheffield United on Saturday. Dhanda’s goal propelled Graham Potter’s side to a 2-1 victory in the new manager’s first competitive game in charge and made Dhanda keen to express the extent of his ambitions.

Georgia Davies admitted all she was concerned about was the gold as she powered to the European 50m backstroke title in Glasgow. The 27-year-old triumphed in a time of 27.23 seconds – just outside the European record of 27.21 she set in her heat on Saturday.

Wales under 19s broke their all-time running rugby record score after a 90-0 thumping of Ukraine in the first round of the RLEF European Youth Championships in Serbia on Sunday. Dewi Griffiths showed no signs of injury as he demolished the field in scorching conditions at the inaugural Brecon Carreg Barry Island 10K.
