Williams Shatters Welsh Junior 400m Hurdles Record In Berlin

Swansea Harrier Lauren Williams broke the Welsh Junior 400m hurdles record and set a huge personal best at the European Athletics Championships curtain-raiser in Berlin. The Bath University student was competing for Great Britain U-20s in an international match against Germany and France at the city’s Olympic Stadium.

The South Wales Warriors wasted no time in securing the victory necessary to seal an undefeated campaign in their final fixture of the regular season in Redruth.  A first quarter onslaught saw the visitors run up 30 points in the first quarter to put any hopes of an upset from the Sharks, who shipped 62 points without reply in the first fixture between the sides, out of mind. The real challenge for the Warriors was to ensure they kept a clean sheet to maintain their number one ranking for the play-offs – and that was exactly what the defence did through four quarters.

Sweet Smell Of Success For Local Racers At Red Roses

The Men’s National Autograss Championships certainly lived up to expectations, with two days of spectacular racing held over the weekend on the Castle Lloyd Farm race track near Red Roses in Carmarthenshire. Some 400 cars took part in the race meeting, and there was plenty of success for the local South Wales League drivers. Carmarthen Autograss Club’s Dan MacKenzie took the Champion of Champions race victory to defend his title in CA44, after benefitting from a mistake by rival Tom Lewis on the final lap.
