Striker Oliver McBurnie is hoping his Championship experience can help Swansea City quickly adapt to their new surroundings as they embark on a new ear under Graham Potter (5.30).
McBurnie is expected to start today as the Swans kick-off the 2018/19 season at Sheffield United.
The Scottish striker has become well accustomed to Championship football following a successful loan spell at Barnsley last season. And despite seeing his first-team opportunities restricted at the Liberty Stadium, 22-year-old finally looks set to be given his chance after penning a new three-year deal this summer.
“We are looking forward to getting started,” McBurnie told the official club site.
“We are all feeling positive. We have got a few new signings on board and we are ready to go.
“It would be massive for us to get a good start. Sheffield United away is a tough game first up, but we’re live on TV and we want to show what we are capable of.
“On a personal note I am feeling good and it would be lovely to get on the scoresheet. There is no better way to start a new season.”
A total of 13 players have departed SA1 since the end of last season and fans have been kept guessing as to how Swansea City might line up under Potter, as the club prepare for further transfer activity between now and next Thursday.
Barrie McKay and Bersant Celina arrived at the club this week and are in contention to make their debuts along with fellow new recruits Joel Asoro and Yan Dhanda.
It remains uncertain as to whether central defender Federico Fernandez will start as speculation continues to link the Argentine with a move away from the club, while Sam Clucas, who is believed to be a transfer target for Burnley, is injured.
Despite the changes and uncertainty, Sheffield United will be familiar opposition for McBurnie, who struck against the Blades in a 3-2 win for Barnsley last season.
“We got a late winner, but they are a team who play good football,” McBurnie added.
“For us it will be good test and a chance to see where we are compared to a good Championship team.”
