Bodybuilding legend James Flex Lewis won a record seventh consecutive Mr Olympic title in the 212lb class in Las Vegas. Llanelli-born Lewis had equalled the record set by Hollywood star Arnold Schwarzenegger 12 months earlier.

Elfyn Evans finished 12th on Rally Turkey after showing what a magnificent team player he is by sacrificing a great comeback result to help his team-mates Sébastien Ogier/Julien Ingrassia keep their FIA World Rally Championship title hopes alive. Evans’ hope of victory vanished on Friday when he hit a massive rock in his M-Sport Ford Fiesta WRC on SS6 and broke the car’s suspension. Co-driven by Dan Barritt, he returned under the Rally 2 rules on Saturday and, not for the first time this year, showed what could have been by working his way back up to seventh after a stunning performance saw him set second fastest time on stages 11, 12 and 13.

Graham Potter has admitted the guts and gumption being shown by his Swansea City team will only take them so far. The Swans manager saw his side fail to score at home for the second successive match as they were held 0-0 at home to Nottingham Forest on Saturday. The point was enough to keep them in the play-off places, but Potter has acknowledged resilience and determination in adversity won’t get the Swans anywhere near returning to the Premier League.

John Mulvihill has admitted Cardiff Blues fans are being short-changed following the region’s poor start to the season. The Blues head coach has overseen three straight defeats in the Guinness Pro14, all of which involved the surrender of winning positions. Barrie McKay insists he has no messages to deliver to Aitor Karanka when Swansea City host Nottingham Forest on Saturday. McKay spent a year at Forest, before he joined the Swans this summer, but once Karanka came in as manager at his old club midway through last season he found himself surplus to requirements. Neil Warnock wants to offer Ethan Ampadu a very special 18th birthday present – a loan spell at Cardiff City. The Bluebirds manager missed out on another Chelsea startlet in the summer, Tammy Abraham, but has set his sights on bringing teenage sensation Ampadu to Cardiff in the new year. On what should have been a good opening day for him – favourable road position, new stages for everyone, challenging conditions he loves – a string of misfortune eventually saw him and co-driver Dan Barritt park their M-Sport Ford Fiesta WRC two stages from the end of the day. Having successfully completed the opening spectator stage last night, stopping the clocks in 10th place, just 4.3 seconds off the lead, Rally Turkey started to unravel on the first stage this morning, when the intercom packed in and Evans had to drive blind.

Neil Warnock believes Cardiff City’s Harry Arter will patch up his differences with Roy Keane and play for the Republic of Ireland again. A leaked WhatsApp message, spoken by Burnley’s Stephen Ward, detailed a bust-up between on-loan Bluebirds midfielder Arter and Jonathan Walters on one side – and Republic assistant manager Keane on the other. Arter declared himself unavailable for the Republic’s games against Wales and Poland during the international break but Warnock said: “Harry loves his country and wants to play for them again.
