Ryan Giggs Insists His First Wales Campaign Has Been A Good One

Ryan Giggs was proud of his team despite losing 2-1 to Denmark at the Cardiff City Stadium in their final game of their Nations League campaign. Gareth Bale scored what turned out to be a consolation for Wales after goals from Nicolai Jørgensen and Martin Braithwaite helped the Danes seal promotion to the top tier. The victory guarantees them Group B4 winners’ status and a play-off spot for Euro 2020. As for Wales, this defeat leaves them remaining in the second tier where Giggs feels his team have learned a lot from this tournament.

Passionate Wales Cooled By Classy Danes Despite Gareth Bale Flourish

Despite a Gareth Bale goal and feverish finish, Wales’ hopes of promotion to the top tier of the Nations League ended with a 2-1 defeat to a streetwise Denmark in Cardiff. In another game that undermined the value of this new tournament compared to the old futility of international friendlies, Wales were edged out by the classy Danes in an often fractious and frenetic clash. But Wales manager Ryan Giggs can take consolation from highly encouraging displays from his youngsters against one of the best current form sides in European football.

Jake Ball Ready To Bounce All Over The Tongans

Jake Ball – owner of Welsh rugby’s most distinctive beard and stompiest boots – is back just when his country needs him. The Scarlets second row returns on Saturday to help repel Tonga at the Principality Stadium, a venue where plenty of South Seas Islanders have left their imprint. That won’t bother Ball, even though he is returning for the first time in a Wales shirt since dislocating his shoulder against New Zealand last autumn.

Super Team-Mate Evans Gives Ogier WRC Title Advantage

Elfyn Evans was faster than Sébastien Ogier on the opening day of Rally Australia, but yet again showed what a magnificent team-mate he truly is by easing off to allow the Frenchman to get ahead. Co-driven by Dan Barritt, Evans was eighth and Ogier 10th after SS5, before some quick and strategic calculations saw the Welshman, and indeed the third M-Sport Ford Fiesta WRC driven by Teemu Suninen, drop behind and put Ogier and his co-driver Julien Ingrassia up to what they hoped would be eighth. But when Ogier’s title rival Thierry Neuville lost time when a tyre came off a rim on his Hyundai after a jump on the same stage, the five-time world champion found himself in seventh. And, more importantly, some 30 seconds ahead of Neuville at the end of day one.

Ryan Giggs Eyes The Prize For Wales . . . But Danes Are Determined

Ryan Giggs believes Wales are involved in a cup final against Denmark tonight where the stakes are higher than most fans realise. Giggs’ team host the Danes at the Cardiff City Stadium in their final match of the inaugural Nations League competition, a tournament that had plenty of critics when it was introduced. It may still be difficult to understand – unless you devote the time to digesting the extensive fine detail – but the primary aim appears to have been a huge success.

Mrs. Jenkins Is To Thank For Jonah And The Wales Cap

Rachel Jenkins may be looking down from a gap in the clouds on Saturday when Jonah Holmes make his debut for Wales. The late Mrs. Jenkins was the grandmother of Holmes – the Leicester wing who will start at full-back against Tonga – and it is to her that he owes a debt of gratitude for the opportunity. There may be a heavenly tear, too, as Holmes recalls: “My grandmother was from Cwmllynfell near Swansea. It would have been great if she was here to come on Saturday, but unfortunately she passed away a couple of years ago.
