Substitute Ashford, who has joined the young Bluebirds from Cambrian and Clydach’s youth development system, fired the crucial goal in a 2-1 win after 90 minutes. Cardiff’s youth players laid a […]
Celtic Dragons were ‘flat and flaky’ during their bitterly disappointing Vitality Netball Superleague defeat against Severn Stars in Gloucester. A sell-out attendance of more than 800 spectators watched Stars power to a 57-40 win against Dragons, who were a pale shadow of the team who crushed London Pulse 67-40 away in their last match. Coach […]
Mark Smith, one of the most consistently effective defencemen in Cardiff Devils history, is focused on a play-offs mission. Edmonton-born Smith is Cardiff Fire’s head coach and they have launched a bold bid to finish among the top four clubs in National League South. Fire have a big weekend at the Viola Arena, playing back-to-back […]
Elfyn Evans’ hopes of a strong points-scoring finish on this weekend’s Rallye Monte-Carlo are over, after he crashed his Ford Fiesta WRC out of the event this morning. Co-driven by Scott Martin, the M-Sport Ford World Rally Team’s lead driver finished yesterday’s leg in a strong sixth position – just 29.8 seconds off a podium position. But Saturday morning didn’t start well, as Evans lost a minute on the day’s opening stage, the 18.53 mile Agnières-en-Dévoluy – Corps test (SS9), when a rear tyre delaminated, dropping him to seventh.
Former Swan Steve Lovell insists there will be no lump in his throat or tear in his eye today – unless he knocks his old club out of the FA Cup. The Gillingham manager returns to his home town club determined to steer his League One side into round five, rather than get nostalgic. Lovell grew up in Swansea until former Crystal Palace manager Malcolm Allison tempted him away to Crystal Palace at the age of 16.
Tyler Morgan will aim to put down a marker against Munster after failing to make Warren Gatland’s Six Nations squad. The 23-year-old Dragons centre was involved with Wales during the autumn internationals, but failed to make the cut for the Six Nations. Now he has vowed to use his regional performances to convince Gatland he still has what it takes to make the World Cup squad later in the year.
Matty Dolan can’t wait to go back to his roots in the FA Cup this weekend – and show Middlesbrough fans the player they missed out on. The Newport County midfielder grew up at The Riverside, climbing through the ranks from the age of seven to 21. He made the bench for a few pre-season friendlies, including one against Atletico Madrid, but never got the chance to play for the first-team.
M-Sport Ford World Rally Team’s Elfyn Evans and Scott Martin continue to hold a strong sixth place after rolling the dice with a brave tyre choice this afternoon. With their EcoBoost-powered Ford Fiesta WRC less than 30 seconds adrift of the podium, Rallye Monte-Carlo is far from over and there remains all to play for. Taking four of Michelin’s Pilot Alpin Soft tyres and two studded tyres into the afternoon loop, the Evans knew that he would lose time on the first stage (SS6) – a long stretch of compacted ice demanding a cautious drive from the 30-year old Dolgellau star.
Welshman Matthew Myers, the most decorated player in Elite League ice hockey, will play his 900th match in all competitions on Saturday. Cardiff-born Myers has won 19 major British trophies and made almost 100 appearances for Great Britain during his career. It is fitting that Myers’ landmark match will be played against his former club […]
Graham Barrow has ordered his Dragons to shoot on sight in Saturday’s Vanarama National League match against Maidenhead United at the Racecourse (3pm). Wrexham have suffered five successive defeats and failed to score a goal in 2019 and manager Barrow says: “It’s old fashioned, but when I played strikers were judged on how many shots […]

Stages that featured on last year’s Wales Rally GB and an Ypres style service area in Llandudno town centre are some of the attractions of next month’s Visit Conwy Cambrian Rally which, for the first time in its history, will host the opening round of the Motorsport UK British Rally Championship, as well as those of the Jordan Road Surfacing BTRDA, Pirelli Welsh Stage and ANWCC Championships. With support from Conwy County Borough Council, this year’s event on Saturday 16 February looks geared up to be the best ever. The event organisers, North Wales Car Club, hope the return to reverse seeding, which will see the lower-powered cars and historic vehicles run first on the road, will help boost entries and kick off the 2019 British rally season in style. “I am honoured that the Cambrian Rally team has been asked to host the opening round of the Motorsport UK British Rally Championship in 2019,” said Cambrian Rally clerk of the course, Alyn Edwards.

Geraint Thomas could yet ride this year’s Giro d’Italia rather than solely focussing on defending his Tour de France crown. Wales’ first ever Tour champ said earlier this month that retaining his Yellow Jersey was the main aim for 2019 despite having unfinished business with the Giro.
Elfyn Evans holds a solid sixth place after the opening two stages of the Monte Carlo Rally, which began last night from Gap in southeastern France. Together with new co-driver Scott Martin, Evans was sixth fastest on both the opening speed tests in his EcoBoost-powered Ford Fiesta WRC to end the first night’s action 48.2 seconds behind rally leader Ott Tänak (Toyota). A clean and trouble-free start was just what Evans wanted in the icy conditions – although the slippery Tarmac caught out his M-Sport team-mate Teemu Suninen, who nose-dived his Fiesta WRC into a ditch early in SS1. If that wasn’t bad enough, fellow Finn Kalle Rovanperä then rammed his Škoda Fabia R5 into the back of Suninen’s car, causing even more damage.
Emiliano Sala’s sister has made an emotional plea for the search to continue for her “fighter” brother following the Cardiff City striker’s disappearance. After completing his club record £15million move to the Premier League on Friday night, Sala was on board a Piper Malibu aircraft which crashed in the Channel Islands on Monday evening. The 28-year-old and the plane’s pilot – David Ibbotson– were the only men on board the aircraft and despite extensive searches, neither man has been found.
