Wales Wheelchair claimed their fourth Rugby League Celtic Cup title in as many years after easily seeing off Scotland and Ireland in Halifax on Saturday. Like in previous years, it was a three-game one-day tournament, all 80-minute matches.
Great Britain 5, Torpedo 4 Great Britain played the first of two matches against KHL side Torpedo Nizhny Novgorod in Nottingham – and the teams meet again in Sheffield this afternoon. GB scratched goalie Jackson Whistle, Steve Lee, David Phillips and Joe Lewis from their full squad for the game. Robert Farmer led the way […]
Mark Williams has praised the NHS but revealed he needs more treatment after bowing out of the snooker World Championship in Sheffield. The defending champion was beaten 13-9 by David Gilbert on Saturday in the last 16 of the tournament just hours after being released from hospital. Williams had complained of chest pains on Friday night and remained in accident and emergency until after 11pm before doctors allowed him to return to his hotel.

Ospreys coach Allen Clarke praised his Heineken Champions Cup chasers as he claimed they deserved their play-off showdown with the Scarlets. The two regions – who were encouraged by the WRU to merge earlier this year – will instead go head-to-head at the Liberty Stadium on May 17 or 18 for the right to play in Europe’s top tier next season. The Ospreys earned their place by finishing fourth in Conference A of the Guinness Pro 14 after a 26-23 victory over the Cardiff Blues in their Judgement Day meeting at the Principality Stadium.
Wayne Pivac has defended his final campaign in charge of the Scarlets and predicted they will rise again next season. The New Zealander – who takes over from Warren Gatland as Wales coach after the World Cup – failed to bow out with a victory in his last game of the regular Guinness Pro 14 race. Instead, the Dragons gained their first league win away from Rodney Parade for four years with a 34-32 victory in their Judgement Day clash at the Principality Stadium.
Elfyn Evans has crashed out of Rally Argentina, after hitting a massive rock on the inside of a corner and damaging the chassis and transmission on his Ford Fiesta WRC. It’s not possible for the car to be repaired for Evans to return tomorrow under the Rally 2 rules, but the M-Sport team will repair the car in readiness for Rally Chile, which follows straight after this event. Evans was in sixth place starting Saturday’s second stage (SS10), just 5.7 seconds behind Andreas Mikkelsen, when he came into a corner too fast, hit a boulder and rolled.
Merthyr Town 1, Walton Casuals 2 There were wild celebrations at Merthyr Town after the final EvoStik Southern League match of the season. More than 350 spectators watched the Martyrs slip up at their MetCoaches Community Stadium home – and that sent Casuals players, management and fans into raptures. The Surrey club won their last […]

The eight-year-old bay gelding gave sponsor Brace his first success in the race since it was first staged in […]
Fulham 1, Cardiff City 0 Cardiff City live to fight another day. Their Premier Division plight near the foot of the table leaves them in a precarious position, but there is still hope. The Bluebirds now need to beat both Crystal Palace at home and Manchester United at Old Trafford to have any chance of […]
Graham Potter always stressed it was a long shot, but after watching Swansea City’s play-off dream die an unnecessary little death the manager admitted they were not among the best six teams in the Championship. Despite leading 2-0 against Hull City at the Liberty Stadium with only 13 minutes to go, the Swans stumbled to a 2-2 draw. Two goals from Oli McBurnie – taking his total for the season to 21 in the Championship – were rubbed out by Jarrod Bowen and Nouha Dicko.

Gareth Furlong’s double fired Wales to victory over Belarus to top their Pool in the FIH Men’s Series in Kuala Lumpur. The 26-year-old’s brace took Wales two points clear of Pool A in Malaysia as they followed up their stunning victory over World No 10 side Canada on Friday.
Rory Thornton is aiming for a double this weekend – as hometown coach and loan town lock. The loan part comes first when the second row lines up for the Cardiff Blues – where he is on a one-season lend – against his parent region, the Ospreys On Sunday, the Wales forward is back at the Principality Stadium as a coach with Bonymaen, as the Division 1 East side attempt to knock over Andy Powell’s Brecon in the final of the WRU National Plate.
George North believes the Ospreys’ resilience will be enough to see them overcome Cardiff Blues today and tip the Judgement Day verdict in their favour. The Wales wing will return from injury for his first match since breaking a bone in his hand on the day the Six Nations Grand Slam was secured against Ireland six weeks ago. North’s left hand is now fully recovered and operational – much like the region itself, believes the Lions star who considers the death-defying powers they have shown since the rejection of a merger with the Scarlets underlines why their mental strength will carry them through against the Blues.
Peter Creed’s hopes of an Irish Open title were dashed after a four game defeat in his semi-final in Dublin. The Caerphilly-born ace, seeded six for the event, took a tight first game 12-10 against No 7 seed Mahesh Mangaonkar.
Graham Potter does not believe in fairy stories and much prefers to talks about “process” and “outcomes” than hopes and dreams. But the Swansea City manager has allowed himself to contemplate the possibility that three more victories for his team could yet propel them into the Championship play-offs. That, of course, depends on a type of magic wand – or season-ending anxiety – affecting other clubs above them – namely, Derby County, Middlesbrough and Bristol City.
Elfyn Evans confessed that sixth place is not where he wanted to be at the end of a very wet and muddy opening day on Rally Argentina – but while the M-Sport Ford Fiesta WRC driver is down in sixth place, he is only 38.2 seconds off the lead and 24.8 seconds off a podium place. The Argentine stages are challenging at the best of times, but heavy thunderstorms in the lead up to the rally made them even more demanding on Friday – with deep water splashes and treacherously slippery conditions making the balance between speed and survival a key part of the game. Those with the confidence to push through the challenging conditions were able to reap the rewards, and those who drove with an air of caution suffered as a result.
John Mulvihill accepts that 80 minutes of rugby will deliver a rightful verdict on his Cardiff Blues side when they face the Ospreys on Judgement Day. The Blues head coach has overseen a strangely inconsistent campaign, during which the region have recovered from a poor start, hit some admirable heights in mid-season, and then faded away again in recent weeks with defeats to Munster and Connacht. All of which makes a shoot-out against the resurgent Ospreys – for a play-off stab at qualification for the Heineken Champions Cup – a suitable finale.
