Gleason Fournier, last season’s Elite League Defenceman of the Year, is back for another season with the Cardiff Devils. The 27-year-old joined the Devils midway through the 2015-16 season from ECHL side Alaska Aces. In 3 and a half years with the Devils, Gleason has played 248 games across all competitions and recorded an impressive 202 points (60+142).

Cardiff Blues are set to dump Grand Slam-winning Wales U20 coach Jason Strange and are replacing him as backs coach with former Wales scrum-half Richie Rees. The move comes as part of an on-and-off-field revamp by the region who are also quitting their training base at the Vale of Glamorgan resort. Instead, the Blues are going to split their training venue between the Arms Park and Sophia Gardens, with players shuttling between the two city centre locations.

The Penrhiwllan driver had brought the ex-Global Rallycross car over to West Wales from the USA, where it had been driven by former rally star Patrik Sandell.
Seb Morris’ frustrating British GT Championship season continued last weekend at Donington Park, when the Wrexham-born driver could only muster a seventh place finish. With an unfavourable ‘Balance of Performance’ ruling applied to his Bentley Continental GT3, Morris and team-mate Rick Parfitt Jnr were at a disadvantage as they tried to challenge the front-running Aston Martins and Lamborghinis, although they did everything possible to deliver a wholly professional showing in the two-hour encounter. “We were hampered from the moment we got to the track unfortunately,” said Morris. “It was one of those horrible feelings – the car JRM gave us felt really good and handled well in the first two sectors, but we just had no speed.

The road to winning the most cherished title in world golf starts today as 13 courses around the UK and Ireland host more than 1,400 wannabee Open champions as Regional Qualifying for the 148th Open at Royal Portrush begins. The players are all competing for a spot in the Final Qualifying rounds before the main event starts on 14-21 July. There are 41 Welsh players in action, all dreaming of staying on course for a ticket to Portrush.
Builth Wells champion rally driver Jason Pritchard will contest his home forestry event, the Nicky Grist Stages, for the first time on Saturday 13 July in his North Road Garage-backed Ford Escort RS1800. Having won the MSA British Historic Rally Championship title for a record three times in a row (2015, ’16 and ’17), this will be the first time that Pritchard has competed against the Historic crews in the Jordan Road Surfacing BTRDA Rally Series. So competitive is the Historic section this year that class leader George Lepley (Hillman Avenger) is also lying third in the overall BTRDA Series drivers’ points table! Co-driven by Phil Clarke, Pritchard is contesting the Nicky Grist Stages as part of his on-going preparations for another attempt at this winter’s Roger Albert Clark Rally. He’s done that event twice before, and after a broken half-shaft ruined a one minute lead, the talented 31-year old driver is aiming to win the November classic for the first time this year.
