Ieuan Evans is one vote away from becoming the new chairman of the Welsh Rugby Union. At tonight’s remote AGM, the clubs who voted him in as a national representative ahead of departing chairman Gareth Davies, learned that the former Wales record cap and try holder had beaten off John Manders for a seat on the 12-strong main board. The vote for chairman, which is due to take place at the first meeting of the new board, will determine who becomes the most powerful figure in Welsh rugby in the most challenging of times.
Glenn Delaney admits it feels like groundhog day after the Scarlets were drawn in the same European pool as Toulon for the fourth season in a row. The Scarlets will have faced the three-time European champions seven times in a four season spell and recently lost a Challenge Cup quarter-final in Toulon.
By Alex Bywater Wales have been told their supporters’ patience is wearing thin and they must beat Scotland on Saturday to avoid losing five games in a row for the first time since 2016. By Alex Bywater Newport County manager Michael Flynn praised his sides resilience as they maintained their position at the top of League Two with a last-gasp 2-1 victory over Colchester United. Striker Padraig Amond netted a 91st minute winner for the Exiles as Flynn’s side continued their best ever start to a league campaign. In […]
Christina Shaw is relishing the chance to make her Vitality Netball Superleague debut with Celtic Dragons in 2021. The biological sciences graduate has been in Welsh age group squads from the age of 15 and made her international debut at the Europe Open Championship in Cardiff in October 2017.
Jay Fulton and Kasey Palmer have earned the praise of Swansea City head coach Steve Cooper for their roles in lifting the club to second place in the Championship table. Both players scored in the Swans’ 2-0 victory at home to Stoke City last night – a win that ended the visitors’ five-game unbeaten run and moved Cooper’s men into the automatic promotion places. Only Reading – who have taken a remarkable 22 points from eight games and are seven points clear at the top – sit above Swansea, although Bournemouth and Bristol City may alter that picture after tonight’s round of matches.

Neil Harris says Cardiff City will face a different Derby team to the one they beat a few months ago – and not just because Wayne Rooney is missing. When the sides faced each other last July both were challenging for the top six, but it was the Bluebirds who came out on top 2-1 to reach the play-offs as the Rams missed out.
Wales defender Lucy Howells will be returning to Celtic Dragons for a third season in the Vitality Netball Superleague. The Pembroke-born player’s debut in 2019 came in the live televised match against Team Bath at Arena Birmingham.

Norway are currently in pole position to qualify for Euro 2022 with Wales four points behind in second spot in Group C, while this afternoon’s visitors also have a game in hand.
Table-toppers Newport County plan to stretch their lead at the top of League Two tonight thanks to the elasticity of goalkeeper Nick Townsend. The 25-year-old former Barnsley keeper has made some superb saves in managing three clean sheets on the bounce for County who have not conceded a goal for 299 minutes. This time last season, Townsend was kicking his heels and cursing his luck as he saw Tom King string together six successive clean sheets to help County to a dream start to their campaign.

The 37-year-old left Tottenham in July at the end of his contract and has now called time on his playing career. Spurs paid tribute on their official website, writing: “Michel’s daily work with skipper and number one Hugo (Lloris) over the years cannot be underestimated, as well as his influence on our younger goalkeepers, the likes of Alfie Whiteman and Brandon Austin.”
Wayne Pivac’s world as Wales coach is less than a year old, but already some fans seem nostalgic for the Warren Gatland era. And maybe the Shaun Edwards era, too. But Harri Morgan says it’s time to cut the new guy some slack and recognise Wales are trying to change course as well as coach. […]
Rhys Webb is among a number of Welsh rugby stars – past and present – who stand to lose large amounts of money from the collapse of a Cardiiff-based financial services firm. The Wales scrum-half and former Wales forward Ian Gough are likely to lose tens of thousands of pounds, while others players such as former Wales and Ospreys wing Eli Walker also put their faith in businesswoman Claire Louise Thomas. The fall-out from the implosion of the Juno Moneta Group could also leave the Scarlets heavily out of pocket. Cardiff City were another club who had dealings with the company now in administration.
