Cardiff City and Swansea City could both be hit by new rules that may impact Welsh sport across the festive fixture lists. Both clubs have already seen their weekend Championship matches postponed because of Covid outbreaks and now they are waiting on an announcement from the Welsh Government over possible new restrictions. First Minister Mark Drakeford has revealed his officials are set for talks with the clubs as well as representatives from others sports including rugby and horse racing. Cardiff are due to be at home to Coventry City on Boxing Day, while the Swans are scheduled to be at Millwall.

Former Swansea City boss Graham Potter believes it will be difficult for football to continue with the current trend of only some games being deemed worthy of postponement due to coronavirus infections among players. Potter revealed his current club Brighton were unsuccessful in their request for Wednesday evening’s clash with Wolves – a 1-0 loss – to be rearranged following a Covid-19 and injury crisis at the club. The depleted Seagulls were without a host of influential players for the game, with top scorer Neal Maupay and Pascal Gross the latest men to join the growing list of absentees.
The man who has scored more international tries than any other Welsh rugby player – Jim Roberts – has announced his retirement from wheelchair rugby. He goes out at the top, having scored 24 tries in a Paralympic final, and 208 tries across two Paralympic Games, but insists there will be no U-turn from his […]
Carmarthen Quins hope to offer a glimpse of the future when they host rivals Llanelli in the first West Wales showdown of the new Indigo Premiership. Both clubs are feeders within the Scarlets region and regulars at Parc y Scarlets have had plenty of reasons to be grateful to the Quins’ production line in recent years. Wales scrum-half Kieran Hardy, hooker Ryan Elias and Scotland squad prop Javian Sebastian are just a few of the former Quins players to have hit the heights in the last couple of seasons and on Thursday night there could be evidence of more to follow.

By Paul Jones Swansea City are bracing themselves for the likely postponement of their match at QPR this weekend as rising rates of Covid-19 threaten to rip apart the festive fixture list. The Swans are scheduled to visit in-form Rangers, currently fifth in the Championship, on Saturday as Russell Martin’s team bid to halt a […]

The Welsh world No.1 is preparing to start his title defence on Wednesday, aiming to brush aside all challengers as he did 12 months ago in an empty Alexandra Palace. Price’s stunning triumph last year – when he captured his first world title – capped a remarkable seven-year rise from winning his PDC Tour Card.

Josh Adams has forged himself a reputation as one of the best wings in world rugby, but he is prepared to add more strings to his bow. The Cardiff star has scored 17 tries in 34 Test matches for Wales and is one of the first names on Wayne Pivac’s team sheet. Centre is somewhat of a problem position for Pivac, and while the return of George North for the Six Nations will come as a huge boost, Wales need to develop more options especially in the number 13 jersey.
Zoe Backstedt has revealed her first senior cyclocross victory came at a cost – a bad back. Backstedt – who became junior road race world champion in September – underlined her huge potential as well as her versatility as she finished more than a minute ahead of her nearest rival, Laura Verdonschot, who took second place.
Russell Martin has admitted Swansea City don’t have the depth to sustain a promotion play-off challenge. The Swans head coach gave a realistic assessment of his squad in what might be considered as a clear message to the club’s American owners that they need to authorise some spending in the January transfer window. It comes after Martin’s side crashed to a 4-1 defeat at home to Nottingham Forest, a team revitalized under Martin’s successor, Steve Cooper.
Steve Morison has been impressed by Cardiff City’s powers to get up off the canvass – but has told them it’s time to stop being hit. Morison saw his team come from 2-0 down to draw 2-2 at Birmingham City in a routine that has become familiar since he took charge. But even though the rookie manager praised his team’s resilience, he admitted they need to stop being whacked early in contests if they are to move away from the Championship relegation scrap.
Cardiff’s interim head coach Gruff Rees praised the resolve and determination shown by his side of misfits – thrown together after a whopping 42 squad members were unavailable for selection – even though their European campaign began with a heavy defeat. Any match under the circumstances of so many of their squad in isolation would have been tough going, but they were tasked with facing a fully loaded Toulouse outfit stacked with quality. Most notably, and significantly, they had to face recently crowned world player of year, Antoine Dupont.

Nesbitt wasn’t happy with her individual performance – despite […]
Former European and Commonwealth champion Georgia Davies has announced her retirement from competitive swimming after a glittering 11-year career. Davies – who won gold at the 2014 Commonwealth Games – has decided to bow out at the age of 31, rather than go for a fourth Games appearance for Wales next year in Birmingham. The London-born swimmer, who trained at Wales National Pool in Swansea from the age of 10, won 20 international medals in total, went to both the London 2012 and Rio 2016 Olympic Games, but missed out on selection for the delayed Tokyo Games this summer.
