Swansea City manager Russell Martin has revealed that Jamie Paterson will return to the first-team fray following his side’s 1-0 home defeat to Luton Town. Paterson, so influential for the Swans pre-Christmas, has missed the six last games after seemingly falling out with the club over the terms of his one-year contract extension, that was triggered by his employers earlier this month. It seemed inevitable the 31-year-old would be heading out of South Wales in the transfer window, but despite interest from QPR, a move never materialised.

Kieffer Moore forced his way out of Cardiff City by declaring he wanted to leave, manager Steve Morison has insisted. Wales striker Moore joined Bournemouth on deadline day for a fee variously reported as between £3.5m and £5m. Morison, whose Bluebirds side face Barnsley on Wednesday night, has claimed he tried to persuade Moore to stay but that once the 29-year-old handed in a formal transfer request the club decided to sell him.

Aaron Ramsey should still be playing at Juventus, claims his former Wales teammate Joe Ledley. Ramsey completed a deadline day move from Turin to Glasgow on Monday where he will become the biggest name in Scottish football after signing on loan with Rangers until the end of the season. The Wales midfielder had been considered surplus to requirements by Juve, but his former Euro 2016 colleague Ledley – once of Celtic – reckons Ramsey should still be playing for the Italian giants rather than appearing in the Scottish Premiership.

Athletics was the ultimate winner on Sunday as the two-day Welsh Athletics Indoor Championships came to a close in Cardiff. After a two-year gap between the winter national championships due to Covid, athletes, fans and organisers were all glad to be back at the National Indoor Athletics Centre – especially as there were still doubts surrounding the event up until two weeks ago. But following the Welsh Government announcement that restrictions on indoor events were due to end last Friday, it was all systems go for the championships.
