Wales manager Robert Page has described the prospect of facing England at the World Cup as “mouth-watering”. Russell Martin has urged his Swansea City players to grasp the opportunity to become history-makers in the derby at Cardiff City on Saturday. The Swans head coach has suggested the chance to become the first Welsh team to do a league “double” over their rival should be another motivating factor when his team visit the Cardiff City Stadium. Following the Swans’ 3-0 victory in the reverse fixture in October, the visitors have the chance to complete the first league double in the 110-year history of the fixture.

Scarlets and Wales flanker James Davies has announced he is retiring from rugby with immediate effect due to concussion. The player popularly known as ‘Cubby’ hasn’t played since winning his 11th Wales cap against Georgia at Parc y Scarlets in October 2020. Davies, 31, has revealed he has struggled with the effects of concussion for the past 17 months and that he has been advised to stop playing for the sake of his health.

Following a day-long battle where the leading two crews were closely matched throughout, it was Damian Cole/Ian Davis who won the opening round of the J D Competition Tyres Welsh Tarmacadam Championship, the Tour of Caerwent Rally in their Get Connected Škoda Fabia R5. They opened up a 10-second lead on the first stage ahead of Dave Willett/John Davies, driving a Ford Escort Mk2, only for Willett to reduce Cole’s advantage to just one second after the second of six special stages at the MOD site at Caerwent. Over the next three stages, the pair were never more than three seconds apart, with Cole setting fastest times on two of the three tests, before wrapping up victory with fastest time on the final stage to end the day 11 seconds ahead of Willett.
