By Paul Jones Russell Martin is tired of sloppy performances, as he see his team drop down to 16th in the Championship, following an eight game winless streak. Andy Carroll’s third goal of the season put Paul Ince’s men ahead, and it might have been two within five minutes had Yakou Meite not mindlessly blazed […]
Llandovery fired another warning shot across the bows of the top two teams in the Indigo Premiership as they ran in four tries in a 29-0 West Wales derby win over Carmarthen Quins at Church Bank. Beaten only once this season in a tight tussle at Cardiff, where they still emerged with a couple of points, they gave notice they will not be cast adrift by the table-topping Blue and Blacks and Aberavon. Cardiff beat Pontypridd 39-13 at the Arms Park to stay nine points clear, while the Wizards triumphed 18-15 over Bridgend at the Brewery Field.
Nathan Jones has admitted he needs to turn things around quickly after his first Premier League home match as a manager ended in a disastrous 3-1 defeat for his club Southampton against Brighton. The Welshman watched his club slip to the bottom of the table after being outclassed by Brighton at St Mary’s. Having taken charge of Southampton just twice since his appointment on November 10 due to the break for the World Cup, Jones was hoping to oversee back-to-back wins after Tuesday’s narrow victory over Lincoln, but his players produced a disappointing performance on Boxing Day.

After the eerily empty stands of the past two years, around 10,000 spectators are expected to be at Chepstow Racecourse on December 27 as the Coral Welsh Grand National is restored to its full-throated glory. Always one of the great days in Wales’ sporting calendar, the race was held in near silence last year, and again in 2020, due to Covid restrictions. But this year, the race – which dates back to 1895 when it was held at Ely Racecourse in Cardiff – will once again be played out in front of packed crowds, which creates a unique festive atmosphere.
Russell Martin will be first in the queue at the January sales – searching for wingbacks to replace Ryan Manning and Joel Latibeaudiere. The Swansea City head coach is gearing up for transfer activity after both players rejected the latest offers of new contracts and appear destined to leave the club. At a time when Martin had hoped to add more fire-power to his front line to push for a play-off place, the decisions by Manning, 26, and the 22-year-old former Manchester City starlet Latibeaudiere, have forced Martin to alter his thinking .
Luke Morgan aims to jog Warren Gatland‘s memory when he steps out for the festive derbies – starting with the Ospreys’ clash against the Scarlets on Boxing Day. The wing will be part of an Ospreys line-up aiming to build on their eye-catching victory over French champions Montpellier last week, where they host their biggest rivals in a match that is live on S4C. Morgan was a tryscorer against the Sharks earlier this month in his region’s previous URC game and will be out to repeat his part in a hugely impressive collective show of strength out in France last week.
Cardiff City have revealed that Rubin Colwill has taken part in fewer than half of their training sessions this season. The Wales midfielder’s progress has been beset by injuries, even though he made the World Cup squad for Qatar and came on as a substitute in the defeat to England. Colwill has actually managed 12 appearances for Cardiff this season, but 11 of those have been off the bench and his manager Mark Hudson has admitted there are concerns over the durability of the 20-year-old, despite his obvious talent.
By Graham Thomas Warren Gatland could be left regretting he didn’t become a racehorse owner if Gats And Co romps home to win the Coral Welsh Grand National next week. The horse – named after the returning Wales coach – is a 100/1 outsider with the bookies but Gatland has form when it comes to […]
Jim Williams has labelled his victory over James Wade at the PDC World Darts Championship as the biggest win of his career. Welshman Williams caused the biggest shock of the tournament so far by dumping out the No.8 seed Wade, 3-2. Williams, ranked 77th in the order of merit, put in the performance of his life to oust Wade in a decider where he came up with some clutch darts, throwing three 180s and averaging 98.48.
