Les Miserables . . . Wales Odds for France are Game for a Laugh

Wales fans are being urged to see the funny side of their team’s current Six Nations woes, with bookmaker DragonBet offering “Les Miserable” specials ahead of Sunday’s clash against France.

 

The offers – which reference most of the things that went badly wrong during Wales’ 48-7 defeat to England at Twickenham – are an attempt at gallows humour as the French get ready with their guillotine.

Punters are being asked to lean into the current state of things for a team that has not won a single match in the tournament for almost three years.

After that chastening defeat to England — a performance riddled with penalties, cards and a flood of points conceded — optimism is in short supply. 

Rather than pretend otherwise, the Welsh bookmaker has embraced the mood music, pricing up a menu of markets based entirely on the things that went spectacularly wrong last time out.

Top of the bill in the Les Miserables collection is Wales to concede 18 penalties or more at 6/4, a nod to the relentless whistle that blighted their display against England.

For punters who fear indiscipline could spiral again, there’s also Wales to have three or more yellow cards at 7/4, while the even darker scenario of Wales to have a red card is priced at 5/1.

And if 15 men on the field feels optimistic, DragonBet are offering 5/2 on Wales to be down to 13 men at any time during the match — a market that underlines just how costly the sin-bin proved in their previous outing.

The specials don’t stop at discipline. Defensive frailties are also under the spotlight. 

Wales to concede eight tries or more is 2/1, while an even grimmer first-half collapse — Wales to concede 30 or more points in the first half — is 7/4. 

For those who fear France could run riot from the opening whistle, it’s a price that captures the anxiety currently gripping sections of the fanbase.

DragonBet have even ventured into historic territory. France to surpass the biggest Six Nations winning margin over Wales — the infamous 51-0 in 1998 — is available at 5/1, while the almost unthinkable scenario of Wales conceding a point a minute — 80 or more — is 10/1.
