Just two Welsh players – Scarlets pair Ken Owens and James Davies – have made the Guinness Pro12 Dream Team for this season.
Owens, who is off on his first Lions tour later this month, makes the side at hooker, whilst Davies – who could make the Wales squad for their South Seas tour this summer – is included in the back row.
But that is it as far as representation from the four Welsh regions is concerned with no-one from the Ospreys, The Cardiff Blues or the Newport Gwent Dragons making the cut.
Instead, the team is dominated by Irishmen with 11 players from their four provinces making up the bulk of the selected 15.
Munster lead the way with six players, while Ulster, Leinster and Scarlets see two players each make the grade. Edinburgh, Connacht and Glasgow each see one player selected.
Predictably, there are no selections from the two Italian sides that are again propping up the league table.
Eligibility for selection required every player to have made at least 10 Pro appearances this season.
The selection panel was comprised of journalists and broadcasters from across Italy, Ireland, Scotland and Wales.
Owens has had a season to remember winning his 50th international cap, reaching the milestone of 200 games for the Scarlets as well as being named in the Lions touring party.
Davies has scored two Pro12 tries in a season following his Olympic Games’ success with Team GB 7s. He also tops the chart with 27 turnovers won to date.
