Jamie Roberts is set to extend his illustrious career by joining Australian Super Rugby franchise the Waratahs. The former Wales and British & Irish Lions centre is currently under contract at the Dragons. But it is understood the 35-year-old is set to leave Welsh rugby for one last adventure in Sydney, with the Dragons expected to grant him early release. In his prime, the 94-times capped Wales international, who also played a starring role on two British & Irish Lions tours, was among the best centres in the world game.

Known for his destructive ball carrying, and defensive prowess Roberts arguably redefined the role of the inside centre.

The qualfied doctor has enjoyed a fruitful career having represented Cardiff, Racing 92, Harlequins, Bath, the Stormers, and the Dragons.

And there is to be at least one last chapter in Roberts’ rugby tale with a move to Australia on the cards.

The Waratahs kick-off their Super Rugby season against the newly formed Fijian Drua on February 18 and are hopeful to have Roberts available for the opening stages of the competition.

Roberts is a player who is well respected in the southern hemisphere and would fit the bill as the Waratahs seek to strengthen their back line resources.
