Gethin Jenkins could face another spell on the sidelines following a head injury suffered during the Cardiff Blues’ clash against the Dragons.
The Wales prop is due to have X-rays following a heavy collision in the Blues’ 22-17 Guinness Pro 14 victory on Boxing Day.
Jenkins had come off the bench when prop Brad Thyer was sin-binned during the first-half at Rodney Parade.
But he was soon injured in a tackle and removed for a head injury assessment.
“He had a nasty bang to the face,” head coach Danny Wilson told the Cardiff Blues website.
“He will have an X-ray to check there is nothing broken but he is quite confident there is not.
“It is just a case now of concussion protocols he will have to go through.
“I feel for him at the moment because he is not having a huge amount of luck. There is nobody who works harder to get on the rugby field.
“Hopefully it is a minor thing and we can get him back in the next couple of games.”
The Blues claimed a sixth consecutive league victory over the Dragons and led 22-3 at one stage through tries from wing Aled Summerhill, centre Rey Lee-Lo and replacement Tom James plus a penalty and two conversions from outside-half Gareth Anscombe.
But the Dragons, whose only points up to the 64th minute had come from a penalty via Gavin Henson, staged a fightback in the closing moments.
Replacement prop Lloyd Fairbrother grabbed a try which Henson converted before the home side were awarded a penalty try and conversion.
“I’m pleased we’ve managed to come away with an away win at Rodney Parade,” said Wilson.
“You can only play a certain way in these conditions, and you look back to three weeks ago when we played Sale away in similar conditions and we were awful. We didn’t get it right.
“This group has come a long way since then, and the very next week we played Sale home in poor conditions, and today in poor conditions and we’ve managed the game far better, and it’s been enough to give us two wins.
“I was really pleased with the first 60 minutes. We played the right way in difficult conditions, managed to pressurise them with our line speed, which we targeted before the game, and obviously scored three good tries.”
Dragons coach Bernard Jackman said: “Cardiff Blues deserved to win, we weren’t anywhere near good enough in the first 55 minutes.
“We need to ask questions about why we made so many errors and why we lacked the intensity that we had spoken about.
“It’s a bit of a flip for us because so far this season we have been quite good at the start and struggled at the end, but the bench made a good impact and maybe put their hands up to start against the Ospreys because the starting team didn’t do the job that we wanted them to.”
