It marked a significant day and jogged a few memories for some of the locals. It was back in 1977 that Burry Port men’s side drew Swansea at home in the Welsh Cup – an All Whites team that included both Wales British Lions internationals. After 80 minutes, the sides were level, only for Burry Port to lose in extra time.

It’s a tale that has been told for many a decade in the club. They even had flat-bed lorries at pitchside to have fans elevated as the crowd was that big.

At the weekend, there was another big crowd – not quite 1977 size – but the biggest seen in Burry Port this season.

After the game, DBG spoke to Brian Thomas, who played for Burry Port in that famous fixture 42 years ago.
