Alex Cuthbert has ended months of speculation about his future by agreeing a new two-year deal with Cardiff Blues.

The Wales wing was being linked with a move to England and Ireland after a disappointing start to the season.

But Cuthbert has opted to stay with Cardiff until the end of the 2017-18 season after a revival in form.

The Gloucester-born flier, 29, said:“I’ve really enjoyed the environment and culture this season at Cardiff Blues under Danny Wilson and the direction we are all now heading in.

“The players have really bought into the style of rugby we’re looking to produce and that has been reflected in the results over the last six months.

“I’m pleased to sign a new contract at Cardiff Blues and looking forward to getting back to full fitness and the start of next season.”

Cuthbert is undergoing rehabilitation after successful knee surgery in Sweden but is expected to be back in action for pre-season training.

Wilson said: “Alex has played exceptionally well for Cardiff Blues since returning from the Rugby World Cup and we’re excited that he has now committed his future to us.

“Alex’s attitude has always been excellent in my time at the region and he’s a good professional and hard worker, both on and off the field, who always gives his all for the team.

“Alex is undoubtedly a high quality international winger who is determined to improve year on year.

“We are all delighted that he has now pledged to do that at Cardiff Blues.”
