Lee Selby is preparing for Saturday night’s IBF final eliminator clash with George Kambosos Jr with one eye on making Welsh boxing history. The Barry fighter wants to be the first ever Welsh boxer to become a two weight world champion by adding the IBF lightweight crown to the featherweight title he landed in 2015. Selby made the move up to lightweight after losing his world title to Josh Warrington at Elland Road back in May 2018.

The 34-year-old’s hopes were ended in bizarre and painful fashion by a stage three crash which left him with a fractured pelvis after a water bottle got caught in his wheel.

Celtic Dragons have signed Mavericks Age Group Graduate Victoria Booth for the 2021 Vitality Netball Superleague season. The Tring-born player has spent the last three seasons playing in Saracens Mavericks’ age group teams before moving to Wales to study at Cardiff University.

Organisers of the 2020 Cardiff University Cardiff Half Marathon have again put back the date of the race due to COVID-19. This year’s race had been re-scheduled for 28 March 2021 but has now been postponed further, until 3 October 2021.

Wales defender Lucy Howells will be returning to Celtic Dragons for a third season in the Vitality Netball Superleague. The Pembroke-born player’s debut in 2019 came in the live televised match against Team Bath at Arena Birmingham.

Natalie Powell will be gunning for a fourth European Championships medal in Prague next month. The Beulah judoka will be part of an 18-strong British team at the Championships in the Czech Republic from 19-21 November.

Defender Leila Thomas admits she is fired up over her return to Celtic Dragons for the Vitality Netball Superleague season. The 19-times capped Wales international has already had two seasons with the Dragons and one at Team bath during her Superleague career.

Gerwyn Price will warm up for the World Cup of Darts in November – where he will carry Welsh hopes alongside Johnny Clayton – by competing in the European Championships which start in Germany on Thursday. Not only has Price become the form player in the world right now, but James Dodd argues the Welshman will soon overtake Michael van Gerwen as the official world number one, too. Earlier this month, Gerwyn Price, the one-man darts winning machine from Markham, won his fourth major televised event – the World Grand Prix – after winning the 2018 and 2019 Grand Slam of Darts as well as the World Series of Darts Finals last month. He has now won four of the major titles in the sport inside the past two years.

Jacob Draper, Rupert Shipperley and Sarah Jones have been named in the Great Britain squads for next week’s return of the FIH Hockey Pro League. Draper and Shipperley make the men’s squad for the games against The Netherlands (27 and 29 October) and Belgium (31 October and 1 November).

With no sign of the arbitrary 30 person maximum gathering rule taking into account the vast open spaces rallying takes place in, the somewhat inevitable news about the Cambrian Rally will raise a very serious question.
