Non Stanford will be hoping to make up for the cruel luck that has dogged her at her last two major championships when she makes her Commonwealth Games debut for Wales on the Gold Coast in April.

The former World Triathlon champion was forced to pull out of the 2014 Games in Glasgow because of an ankle injury and then found herself outsprinted by house-mate Vicky Holland in Rio at the 2016 Olympic Games to miss out on a bronze medal by the narrowest of margins.

“I’ve had ambitions of representing Wales at the Commonwealth Games for as long as I can remember – it was a goal of mine long before the Olympics,” admitted the 29-year-old Stanford.

One of seven podium triathletes in the Team GB programme and will head down under with a positive 2017 behind her. She won gold at the Chengdu ITU Triathlon World Cup, finished in the top 10 in Yokohama and was ranked 33 at the end of the year in the World Rankings.

Joining her in the women’s section will be 19-year-old Loughborough University student Olivia Mathias, while 2014 Glasgow veteran Liam Lloyd will team up with Iestyn Harrett in the men’s events.
