Royal Welsh Trail Running Festival Set To Be Biggest Yet

More than 1,000 runners will descend on the stunning mid-Wales countryside this weekend to participate in the Royal Welsh Trail Running Festival.

The festival of running returns alongside the Royal Welsh Spring Festival on Sunday 21st May for what promises to be an unforgettable day in Builth Wells.

This year’s event will be the biggest and best yet, with a record numbers competitors already signed up to run.

The scenic trails of the Welsh countryside will be filled with runners challenging themselves over half marathon and 10K distances.

But you do not have to be a keen competitor to get involved with this year’s festival. Enter on the day for the 3K Family race, a perfect event for those looking to embrace the fun and excitement of trail running, without committing to the longer distances.

For the youngest of competitors there is a Toddler Trail Challenge and a pentathlon of come-and-try athletic activities.

“We are delighted to have the support of Wales Air Ambulance, Radnor Hills and Wild Trail for this weekend’s event. All three brands have roots in the Welsh countryside and are visible across the trails and show ground.

“It has also been fantastic to see so many runners who have taken part in other Run 4 Wales events, such as the Cardiff University/ Cardiff Half Marathon and Cardiff and Vale College Cardiff Bay Run, signing up on the back of enjoyable days out.”

Online entries have closed for the main races, but 100 spaces have been reserved on the day, so get arrive early to book your place. The Toddler Dash kicks proceedings off at 11:30am.

Wales Air Ambulance have come on board as lead charity partner and feature prominently on our brand new More Mile finishers T-shirt.

Official water partner Radnor Hills will be keeping competitors hydrated throughout the day, while Wild Trail snacks will be fuelling runners and handing out samples of their all-natural snack bars.

The main race will take the runners in a climb to Drws Yr Coed House, looping through woodland, fields and trail paths, with stunning views of the Royal Welsh Showground.

Race entry fees include a bespoke wooden commemorative medal, technical finishers t-shirt (for half marathon and 10K) and free entry in the Royal Welsh Spring Festival – a celebration of rural life with entertainment, workshops, livestock, trade stand and a street food quarter – the perfect place to unwind after running the trails. Exclusive deals and discounts are available to runners in the food hall.

The event also incorporates The Welsh Trail Running Championships and Welsh Inter-Regional Trail Running Championships.

Online entries for the half marathon and 10K distances closed on May 15th, but you can still sign up for the 3K Family race and Toddler Trail Challenge on the day.
