Dani Rowe is hoping a twin track approach will put her on the road to Commonwealth Games glory.

The Cardiff-based cyclist has her sights set on success in the road race on the Gold Coast on April 14.

But before that Rowe, nee King, – who has switched her allegiance from England – will also compete in the 25km points race on April 7 and the 10km scratch race the following day.

The Southampton-born rider who married Welsh cyclist Matt Rowe last year struck Olympic Games gold in the team pursuit in LOndon.

“The track is a bit of a lottery, especially in a race like the scratch,” said Rowe.

“You never know how it might pan out, it’s not always the fastest or strongest who wins a bike race.

“But it’s an opportunity I didn’t want to miss. My road training lends itself to bunch races, so I didn’t have to compromise my training.

“With the road race a week later it means I can still peak for that.”

Rowe, who has lived in Cardiff for the past five years, is relishing the chance to compete for Wales having lined up for England at the 2014 Commonwealths.

She added: “Welsh cycling has been super supportive to me and I feel like an honorary Welsh girl.”
