Moore In Winter Wonderland

Mica Moore has been named by Team GB for next month’s Winter Olympics in PyeongChang.

The ex-Wales sprinter will partner Mica McNeill as part of a 10-strong bobsleigh squad bound for South Korea.

The duo’s selection comes just months after they crowdfunded the £30,000 they needed to compete on the World Cup series this season after the funding was withdrawn.

The 25-year-old Brakewoman said: “I’m so incredibly proud to be able to represent Great Britain at the highest level.

“It’s something that as a young athlete I dreamt of and I honestly can’t believe it’s coming true.

“I can’t wait to be part of Team GB in PyeongChang.”

Moore switched to the ice after representing Wales at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.

The switch has been a huge success with the dedication and the refusal to give up after the shock funding cut paying off with her first Olympic Games.

Youth Olympic silver medalist McNeill and Moore finished in the top 10 in half of their eight World Cup races this season.

They were fourth in the European Championships in Igls in December, 11 months after they were crowned World Junior Champions in Winterberg.

McNeill said: “I am so proud to represent Team GB at 2018. It’s a dream come true to compete at an Olympic Games.

“Four months ago my career was uncertain and to be selected today is very emotional but incredible and I’m so excited.”

 

GB Bobsleigh Performance Director, Chris Price, said of the squad:
“The athletes have had a challenging summer but the resilience and mental toughness to get up and go again throughout this season has been absolutely incredible.
“The way they work together shows a great team ethos and I’m very confident that we’ve got a group of athletes here who can go out to PyeongChang and do the business.”

“I’m excited to see what this team can achieve in PyeongChang on the back of a very successful season on the World Cup circuit,” added GB Bobsleigh Head Coach, Lee Johnston, himself a Olympian.

“We’ve got a team of very talented and hard-working athletes and support staff and they’ve won medals or recorded best-ever results already this season. They’ve stuck together and have shown they can compete with the best in the world.”
