Local Riders Score Sidecar Success At Caio Enduro

Alun Davies/James Ferguson won the opening round of the Sidecar British Enduro Championship after a magnificent performance at the Arwyn Rees Caio Enduro.

Organised by the Dyfed Dirt Bike Club, the local Carmarthenshire crew took the overall win after cleaning the tight Benlan check. Jonathan Williams/Neil James finished runners-up, a minute lost at the check costing the Crossgates crew victory.

Neil Pugh/Anthony Mills from Newtown took the Clubman Sidecar class win, whilst the win in the Expert Sidecar class went to Mark Stokes/Luke Townsend.

A capacity entry of 150 riders contested the event at Cilgawad farm, as the event also counted towards the Welsh Enduro Championship.

This year the event had a new special test with viewing a matter of yards from the pits. This was well received by the spectators, as the first of the ‘bikes kicked into gear heading straight into the Caio forest for a 20 mile lap ridden four times by the championship class.

The Solo Championship class win went to Charlie Evans from Llanidloes; he has now taken maximum points on all of the three rounds of the Welsh Enduro Championship on his Yamaha Off Road ‘bike. The Expert Class was won by Jack Heath from Newport.

The Clubman Class was yet again a close fight between local youth riders Mathew Harries and Jac George (both on KTMs), with Harries taking the win by a slender 16 seconds after the three timed tests. Gareth Jones (Husqvarna) from Tregaron took third a further eight seconds behind.

The Vets Over 40 Class was won by Rowan Jones from Llanidloes on a Yamaha WR, whilst the Vets Over 50 Class win went to local rider Phil George on a KTM. The Sportsman class win went to Arwel Morgan from Llandovery on a Husqvarna.

The Dyfed Dirt Bike Club also put on a round of the Youth Hare and Hounds Championship. Held at the same venue the evening before the senior enduro, around 80 children took part, ranging from primary to secondary school ages.

Feedback from the riders from the weekend’s racing was that the Dyfed Dirt Bike Club had put on yet another top class event worthy of its British Championship status.

The club has to date donated over £40.000 to charity, not including the money raised from this year’s Caio Enduro – something its members can be very proud of.
