Jess Bags Maiden Gold On World Cup Bow For GB

Jess Roberts made a stunning UCI World Cup debut with Britain in Berlin as she rode away with a gold medal. The 19-year-old helped the vastly experienced and medal-laden Team Pursuit squad triumph as she underlined he potential.

The 19-year-old helped the vastly experienced and medal-laden Team Pursuit squad triumph as she underlined he potential.

Roberts, who won the National Road Race title last summer, competed in the first round as she joined Katie Archibald, Laura Kenny and Emily Kay see off the United States.

The quartet clocked four minutes 17.196seconds to comfortably beat the American foursome.

Emily Nelson, who had ridden in the qualifying round where GB clocked the second fastest time behind the Australians, then came back for the final for Carmarthen’s Roberts.

Jess Roberts winning national title this summer beating fellow Welsh rider and Commonwealth Games medalist Dani Rowe.

And the quarter of Archibald, Kay, Kenny and Nelson won a thrilling final having trailed to the Australian rivals until a few laps left.

In the end, the GB quartet clocked 4:16.153 to edge out the Aussies Annette Edmondson, Ashlee Ankudinoff, Georgia Baker and Amy Cure for gold. (4:16.413)

Roberts will now compete at the home round of the World Cup series in London on December 14-16 for Team Breeze where Elinor and Megan Barker will also be racing for GB.
