Guilsfield jumped two places from fifth to third in the Huws Gray Alliance following their 3-2 win against Gresford Athletic on the 3G surface at The Rock, Cefn Druids.

Robbie James, Asa Hamilton and Jake Cook were the scorers for Guilsfield, who now have two fixtures remaining.

Gresford led twice, through Tom Freeman with the only goal of the first half, and Jake Eyre, but Guilsfield hit back to snatch victory in the Friday night match.

Mike Latham had several chances and went close in the last few minutes fir Guilsfield, but could not quite force the goal his team needed.

Gresford manager Steve Halliwell tweeted: “The highs and lows of football.

“That’s why we love it!! 3 games in 6 days, two long trips and a Friday night at Druids v a very good @GUILS1957 2-3 with 7 missing! Proud of the @GresfordFC boys tonight after a good week for the club! ”

Guilsfield went out of the Alliance League Cup in midweek, losing 1-0 against Holyhead Hotspur on Anglesey.

The winners had Dean Garmey sent off after 10 minutes for a challenge on Adam Jenkins, but Guilsfield failed to take advantage.

 

Guilsfield should have grasped the game by the scruff of the neck after the early dismissal, but a combination of slow build up play and inconsistent passing during the first half saw the game remain at 0-0 into the second half.

Guilsfield’s closest chance fell to Chris Cathrall, but his powerful hit the crossbar.

Hotspur held on and snatched a winner when they were awarded a penalty after 83 minutes and Tomos Clarke scored from the spot.

Guilsfield: Andrew, Bromley, Richards (Harris), Rogers, Ford, James, Cook, Jones (Weetman), Hamilton, Cathrall, Jenkins. Subs not used: Leonard.

In a quarter-final tie Gresford Athletic held a 1-0 advantage at Penrhyncoch thanks to a Latham free kick halfway through the first half. Latham made it 2-0 on the hour and later completed his hat-trick and a 3-0 win.

Gresford now play Llandudno Junction in the semi-finals, while Porthmadog are at home against Holyhead Hotspur in a last eight match next Wednesday (7.30pm).

The winners will then take on Flint Town United. Both semi-finals are being played on Saturday, April 21.
