If it’s Thursday and it’s Glasgow, then it must be Night Three of the Premier League of Darts and that means Gerwyn Price fancies his chances, as Ian Mitchelmore reports.

Following a strong start to 2026, Gerwyn Price got his rewards in Antwerp as he won night two of the Premier League.

The Iceman defeated Gian van Veen, compatriot Jonny Clayton and Michael van Gerwen to clinch the maximum haul of five points and the £10,000 nightly prize in Belgium.

It brought a fitting end to what was an astonishing week for the Welshman.

Price somehow left Players Championship 2 in Hildesheim without lifting the title as he lost a last leg decider against Dutchman Wessel Nijman in the final.

He blasted through the field en route to the final, with his emphatic 6-0 victory against van Gerwen - averaging 117.12 in the process - being a real highlight in an event in which he averaged 105.69 across his seven matches, the third-highest ever daily average from a finalist in the event.

Having already reached the semi-finals of the Bahrain Darts Masters, Saudi Arabia Darts Masters and the World Masters since the turn of the year, Price is showing he has firmly put his shock 3-0 second round loss to Wesley Plaisier at the World Championship behind him.

But where has the upturn in form come from?

A change of lifestyle has been crucial, with Price admitting to drastically improving his diet and training regime - so much so that he lost around three stone in weight last year.

Altering his mindset has also been key to the 40-year-old's improvement.

Speaking on the eve of this year's Premier League, Price said: "I need to be a lot more positive when I'm away because I used to think when I'm away, I wanted to be home and when I was home, I wanted to be away.

"Just missing that tournament (2024 Grand Slam) gave me a kick up the backside and I think while I'm away, I need to give it 110% and be a little bit more positive."

Currently second in the table after two weeks of the Premier League, Price will hope he can finally get over the line at the eighth time of trying in an event in which he is yet to win.

And he delivered an emphatic verdict on his hopes of lifting another big trophy in the near future following his impressive exploits in Belgium.

"If I keep playing the way I am, there's no way I can't pick up a major," he declared.

Few could argue with that bold claim given the numbers he produced across his last 10 matches last week, seven of which were at Players Championship 2 and the remaining three of which were in the Premier League.

Eight of the 10 match averages were over 100, with the lowest still being an incredibly competitive 94.46. 

Gerwyn Price's last 10 match averages in full (prior to Players Championship 3): 102.48, 97.87, 101.06, 111.14, 117.12, 104.52, 107.41, 94.46, 100.87 & 104.44.

Even at the elite level, those are ridiculously incredibly numbers.

Price has long been a divisive character in the sport, particularly on the back of his heated Grand Slam victory over Gary Anderson in 2018, the Welshman's maiden PDC major title.

But as time has gone by, fans have increasingly embraced the former rugby player's talents - with his name now being consistently chanted by supporters in venues around the world.

Mind, body and soul appear to be in a good place as far as the Markham thrower is concerned at present. 

If that remains to be the case, 2026 could well be the year the former world number one and world champion elevates himself back towards the summit of the sport.
