Tina Evans struck in the final quarter to give Wales a 1-0 win against Scotland and seal a stunning series win.

Coach Kev Johnson’s side followed up their 2-1 victory in the opening game to produce another great performance against higher-ranked opponents.

The final game in the three match series at the Glasgow’s National Hockey Centre takes place on Monday.

Johnson wanted the series to give his squad vital preparation ahead of the European Women’s Championships II being held in Cardiff in August.

And what a boost it has proved with Wales – now ranked 26 in the world after rising six places up the rankings – seeing off 17 ranked Scotland.

The win would have been even greater but for several vital saves from Scotland’s keeper Amy Gibson.

But she was powerless as Evans netted from a penalty corner after the first three quarters had ended goal-less.

Natasha Marke-Jones and Phoebe Richards, on her 75th appearance, had scored in the opening game.

Wales squad: Abi Welsford ©, Leah Wilkinson, Beth Bingham, Danni Jordan, Ella Jackson (GK), Eloise Laity, Hannah Cozens, Joanne Westwood, Julie Whiting, Lisa Daley, Natasha Marke-Jones, Phoebe Richards, Emily Rowlands, Roseanne Thomas (GK), Sarah Jones, Sian French, Sophie Clayton, Tina Evans, Xenna Hughes
