Head coach Marc LeFebvre has quit Dundee Stars.

The 2017-18 season starts in only a few weeks, but LeFebvre left Cardiff Devils’ Elite League rivals with little warning.

Stars said: “Marc LeFebvre has left the club with immediate effect.”

The Canadian has taken a coaching in North America, although he hasn’t revealed which club he is joining.

“I have an opportunity I cannot pass on,” said Lefebvre, who leaves Stars after two years in charge.

LeFebvre joined the club in the summer of 2015 following a spell coaching in Hungary after previously been head coach at Coventry Blaze. He replaced Jeff Hutchins.

During his two years in charge at Dundee his team qualified for the play-offs on both occasions and reached the finals 2016-17, losing in the semi finals to Cardiff Devils.

His departure has stunned the Dundee support, excited for the new season and looking ahead to seeing the new team Lefebvre was building.

A statement on the club website said: “Dundee Stars can confirm that Marc LeFebvre has left the club with immediate effect.

“Marc has agreed terms with a North American organisation. We wish Marc the very best in his future career.

“Dundee Stars are now actively seeking a head coach for 2017-18.”

Fife Flyers assistant coach Jeff Hutchins believe the club have a player of good calibre in new signing Peter LeBlanc.

The Canadian forward is the first new face for the Kirkcaldy club ahead of the new season as they build their roster for the new season.

The 29-year-old arrives in Scotland after a season where he was split between Cincinnati Cyclones and Manchester Monarchs in the East Coast League.

His CV also includes spells in the NHL, American League, Swedish Allsvenskan and Finish Liiga and LeBlanc says he’s looking forward to coming to Scotland.

“I have never been to Scotland before, but everything I have heard about the country from people who have travelled or lived there seem to love it,” he said.

“Hockey wise I am looking to come in and provide offence both creating and finishing plays in order to do my part being on a winning team.”
