Devils Ace Faryna Ready To Face Flames Test

Justin Faryna is loving the new Erhardt Conference challenge he has taken on this season.

Four-goal Faryna led the Cardiff Devils charge during their 7-3 home win against Nottingham Panthers and he’s fired up for another big challenge at Guildford Flames this evening (Wednesday, 7.30pm).

Calgary-born forward Faryna joined Devils from Dundee Stars this season and has netted 18 goals with seven assists in 36 matches.

Devils stand top of Elite League with games in hand and are through to the Challenge Cup final against Belfast Giants at Ice Arena Wales on Sunday, March 4.

“I’m feeling good about my role in the Devils team and I’m going with it,” says Faryna. “It’s a big difference to the role I had in Dundee.

“We all know what we are playing for. The motivation is right there. We want it badly.

“It’s important to take things one game, one period, one shift at a time, working together for a common goal.

“Everybody is gelling at a critical time and we are moving forward.

“Guildford Flames are a good team with qualify, highly offensive and skilled players. We know what we are up against. Our aim is to go in and play them like we did in the Cup quarter-finals.”

Devils are nine points ahead at the top and head to Guildford Flames with a run of one loss in eight as they look to strengthen their place even more.

Coach Paul Dixon’s Flames have lost one in five and take on Devils after a solid win against Sheffield Steelers.

The referees at the Spectrum, Guildford this evening are Mike Hicks and Matt Thompson.

Other Elite League fixtures this evening: Belfast Giants v Dundee Stars (7pm), Manchester Storm v Coventry Blaze (7.30pm), Sheffield Steelers v Edinburgh Capitals (7.30pm).

Cardiff’s next Elite League match at home is against Belfast Giants on Sunday, February 25 (6pm).

Devils have 14 league fixtures left this season and the trip to Guildford is the first of five successive games on the road.

They travel to Guildford this evening, Nottingham Panthers on Saturday, Edinburgh Capitals on Sunday, Sheffield Steelers (Wednesday, February 21) and Manchester Storm (February 24).
