Captain Tom Leads Pyle & Kenfig To Treble

Pyle and Kenfig completed the treble of men’s club golf by winning the Welsh Men’s Team championship at Porthmadog, beating Glamorganshire in the final.

Welsh international trio Tom Peet, aqed 21, brother Sam, 19, and Sean David, 20, led the way, while teammates Ronan Oliver, 23, and David Phillips, 36, also made substantial contributions as all players contributed winning points along the way.

Pyle and Kenfig won this title in 2021 and were runners-up to Neath last year, while also adding to their Glamorgan Premier League and Victory Shield wins this season.

“It is a good feeling to go one further than last year, I am a very proud captain” said Tom Peet. “That was one of the mottoes of the week, to go one step further than last year and that motivated us all.

“Before we went out, I reminded the players of the feeling last year so it feels good to have won this time.

“It was very much a team effort, we do a lot of stuff together and everyone contributed. We have got six strong players in our squad, we push each other and that helps us get better.

“It is always cool playing with Sam. He caddied for me when we won in Pennard two years ago and I was nervous watching him at the end, with Dad caddying for him so it was a pretty good day for the family.”

Three of the Pyle and Kenfig team have represented Wales with former Welsh Boys champion Sean David, while both Peet brothers have played in the Boys Home Internationals.

The level of club support has also been crucial in their successful campaign, Peet adding, “The support from members has been great, there were a good number up here and there will be a great welcome back at the club.

“Also Porthmadog was a great venue. It was windy, which suited us. I cam here for the Welsh Boys Under 16’s and love the golf course, the people are very welcoming and we were all looking forward to coming here.

“We have a young team so the aim will be to come back next year and do it again.”

Wales Golf event director Dan Fullager added, “Congratulations to Pyle and Kenfig, a strong club performance with all players contributing.

“There was plenty of quality, most games were very competitive, with Ashburnham and Radyr reaching the semi-finals, Pennard, St Mellon’s, Aberdare and Conwy reaching the quarter-finals, meaning we had a great spread of clubs from around Wales.

“Thanks also to Porthmadog, staff and members, who played a large role in helping the event run so smoothly.”
