Billy Leaver struck a decisive blow for Carmarthen Town in their FAW Youth Cup win against Caldicot Town away. The tie was goalless until two minutes from the end of extra time when Leaver scored to hand his team a place in the last eight. Their reward is a home tie against Connah’s Quay Nomads […]
Newport County have never lost at Accrington Stanley – and they put that record on the line at the Wham Stadium this afternoon. County have played Stanley away five times and have earned a win and four draws. Newport won both fixtures last season, including a 1-0 victory at Rodney Parade in April, that took […]
Matty Dolan enjoyed one of his best moments in a Newport County shirt when he scored against Port Vale, but his evening ended in despair. The midfield player was booked later during the 1-1 draw, his fifth caution of the season, and will miss next Saturday’s League Two match at Accrington Stanley because of suspension. […]
Former Cardiff City defender Jazzi Barnum-Bobb has joined National League Torquay United on loan. He has signed for the Gulls on loan until January 7 and is in their squad for Saturday’s home clash with Maidstone United. Torquay manager Gary Owers said: “I’ve watched him over the years and he’ll give us good options in […]
Manager Michael Flynn made 10 changes to his Newport County starting line-up for their Checkatrade Trophy tie against Cheltenham Town at Rodney Parade. Academy players Tom Hillman, Evan Press and Lewis Collins all made their first appearances at first team level, while Owen Taylor went on from the bench. Flynn gave his fringe players their […]
Experienced striker Paul Hayes is ruled out of Newport County’s home match against Cheltenham tonight (Tuesday) and won’t be able to make his debut until the new year. Newport County will face a couple of familiar faces when they play Cambridge United at Rodney Parade next month. The FA Cup second round draw was made live on BBC television and County’s reward for their 2-1 first round win against Walsall was the home tie manager Michael Flynn wanted. Newport are eighth in League […]
Dig deeply enough in the early rounds of the FA Cup and you always find a Welsh connection. So will it be the Wrexham old boy or the former Newport County favourite who survives the replay between Billericay Town and Leatherhead? The 22-year-old midfielder Robbie Evans joined Billericay this season from Wrexham after making 120 appearances for the north Walians. He started the first round tie for the Isthmian League side at Leatherhead. Opposing him was the former Newport County midfield stalwart Lee Minshull, who made 133 appearances for the Welsh club as they fought their way back into the Football League. He is the current captain of Leatherhead.
Michael Flynn said his Newport County were ‘almost perfect’ in their FA Cup win against League One Walsall. The Exiles won 2-1 to earn their place in the second round and manager Flynn said: “It was an outstanding, disciplined performance. “If we cut out those little things, we will be a very good team. “It […]
Newport County were furious with referee Craig Hicks after Notts County scored three goals against their Welsh visitors and went top of League Two. The Exiles had Dan Butler sent off just after the half hour when the score was still 0-0. That decision changed the game and Notts County went ahead two minutes later. […]
Newport County could give striker Shawn McCoulsky his big chance at Notts County on Saturday (3pm). McCoulsky is County’s top scorer on seven goals and has scored in each of their last three matches after going on from the bench. Manager Michael Flynn has spent the last few days thinking through his options and one […]
Shawn McCoulsky is fast earning a reputation as a ‘super sub’ at Newport County after once again coming off the bench and scoring. The 20-year-old striker made it seven goals in 11 games since joining on loan from Bristol City this season as he scored five minutes after coming on to salvage a point against Mansfield Town last weekend to keep his side in sixth place in League Two. It was the third game in a row that McCoulsky had scored while coming off the bench and manager Michael Flynn admitted he is getting close to having to give him a start. Not that McCoulsky is worried, as long as he is scoring.
