Mark O’Brien Ready For Another Newport County Crusade

Michael Flynn has moved quickly to secure the services of first-team regulars Mark O’Brien and Josh Sheehan’s for Newport County’s push for promotion next season. The Exiles may have lost Dan Butler to Peterborough United after notching 150 games for the club in the past three seasons, but club captain O’Brien has given the club a major boost by signing a new two-year deal. Amber Army Marched To The Top Of The Hill . . . And Down Again, But The Duke Of Pill Will Return

Newport County will start the 2019-20 season in League Two, exactly the same place where ended this season. No promotion, no hike in the club’s income and no bigger stage for the players and their ambitious manager Michael Flynn. But Callum Ellis believes he saw enough at Wembley to be convinced that the Amber Army can embark on another march to the summit when August comes around. When the dust settles on Newport County’s play-off final defeat against Tranmere Rovers, manager Michael Flynn and his squad of players will sit down and reflect on what might have been. A controversial decision by referee Ross Joyce not to award Flynn’s side a penalty five minutes before the end of normal time turned out to be a bitter pill to swallow.

The County manager was furious that a key penalty decision went against his team as they lost their League Two play-off final 1-0 to Tranmere Rovers at Wembley. Before they were reduced to 10-men, Newport were pressing for the first goal of the game when referee Ross Joyce refused to award an 85th-minute penalty even though Emmanuel Monthe clearly tripped County striker Jamille Matt as he tried to go past the defender.

Amond will carry the goal-scoring duties as his club’s leading marksman when County face Tranmere Rovers in the League Two play-off final. For Amond and most of his teammates, promotion to League One would represent a new high-water mark in their playing careers, but the 31-year-old Irishman reckons his young boss will climb far higher.
