Wrexham Close In on Stunning Double Swoop for Conor Coady and Kieffer Moore

Wrexham have already signed six new players this summer, but now seem to be close to deals for bigger names – including Kieffer Moore, Conor Coady and Nathan Broadhead.

Wrexham are in talks to try and clinch a remarkable double signing ahead of their Championship return, with England international Conor Coady and Wales striker Kieffer Moore both lined-up to join the ambitious club.

Negotiations over both deals have advanced rapidly in recent days.

Coady, 32, has passed his medical and is expected to join from Leicester City for a fee believed to be around £2 million.

At the same time, Wrexham and Sheffield United are close to agreeing a similar fee for Moore, whose arrival would further underline the club’s aggressive intent in the transfer market.

It’s understood negotiations for Coady accelerated on Thursday following a £2m bid and talks were progressing well.

The defender, who has 12 months remaining on his Leicester contract, attracted interest from Rangers earlier this summer but now looks set to be part of Wrexham’s return to the second tier for the first time since 1982.

Coady brings top-flight pedigree to the Racecourse Ground, having made 198 Premier League appearances and captained Wolves to successive seventh-place finishes and a Europa League quarter-final.

He was also part of Gareth Southgate’s England squads at both Euro 2020 and the 2022 World Cup.

Signing him would mark yet another bold move by Wrexham’s Hollywood ownership duo, Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds, who are determined to maintain the club’s gathering momentum.

Coady’s addition could soon be followed by the arrival of Moore, whose track record in the Championship includes 60 goals in 203 appearances.

The 31-year-old, a key figure for Wales at international level, is viewed as a marquee attacking addition.

The striker left Bournemouth to join Sheffield United last summer, but was denied a return to the Premier League when the Blades missed out to Sunderland in the play-off final – a team they had finished 16 points clear of in the regular season.

Having failed to make it back to the top flight, Sheffield United have been making financial savings are appear willing to take an offer of between £2m and £3m for Moore.

Wrexham boss Phil Parkinson said earlier this week, "Kieffer's under contract at Sheffield United.

“He's one of a number of players we've looked at over the summer.

"Like I said, the landscape changes in the transfer market very quickly from one week to the next. We're looking at lots of options here and abroad."

Wrexham have been one of the most active clubs in the summer transfer window.

They have already brought in six players on permanent deals: Josh Windass, Danny Ward, George Thomason, Ryan Hardie, Lewis O’Brien and New Zealand left-back Liberato Cacace — who broke the club’s transfer record, only for it to be surpassed days later by the £3.5m signing of O’Brien from Nottingham Forest.

And they may yet go further. The club is also holding talks over a potential £7.5m move for Ipswich Town and Wales forward Nathan Broadhead, which would shatter their record again.

Wrexham’s willingness to invest heavily as they step back into the Championship spotlight has raised eyebrows across the EFL, but it reflects the owners' clear ambitions to rise from non-league obscurity to the Premier League.

They even reportedly opened discussions with Manchester United’s Christian Eriksen earlier in the summer, a testament to the club’s growing appeal.

With the new season just days away, the potential arrivals of Coady and Moore would be a powerful statement – and perhaps a final warning shot to the rest of the division that Wrexham aren’t just back, they mean business.
